If someday you will be in Duong Dong, Phu Quoc, Vietnam, do not think that your only options for getting around are walking and the local taxis. You can always rent a motorcycle in Duong Dong on our website and explore Vietnam’s largest island at your own pace — along the Long Beach shoreline, past the harbour and Dinh Cau rock, and out to the wild northern coast around Ganh Dau. A motorcycle turns Phu Quoc from a resort stop into a proper island to ride.
Duong Dong is the island’s hub, with the night market, the fishing harbour and most hotels within a short ride of each other, so a motorcycle makes light work of getting around town. Beyond the centre, the island loop road climbs through forested hills, runs along empty beaches and gives access to Phu Quoc National Park — distances that are easy on two wheels but tiring on foot or by taxi. On this page you will find a full guide to motorcycle rental in Duong Dong.
Required documents vary between rental companies, but common rules are as follows: you should be at least 18 years old; for engines up to 125cc an A1 licence is usually expected, while larger motorcycles call for a full A-class licence. Foreign visitors should carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) together with their home licence — strictly, a Vietnamese-recognised motorcycle licence is required to ride legally, so check the terms of the specific provider on the booking page. Most companies also ask for a deposit, paid in cash or by card and refunded when you return the motorcycle in good condition.
Motorcycle rental in Duong Dong starts from around 650,000 VND per day for a mid-size machine and runs up to roughly 1,100,000–1,350,000 VND per day for a bigger or newer model. What you pay depends on the engine size and, importantly, on the time of year. Prices in Duong Dong follow a fairly clear seasonal pattern:
Within any season, weekends and Vietnamese public holidays are the real peak — that is when the cheapest bikes sell out first and prices edge up. Book a few days ahead to lock in the best rate.
The dry season, from November to March, is the most comfortable and popular time to ride, with sunny skies, calm seas and pleasant temperatures. The rainy season runs from June to September, bringing tropical downpours that are usually short but heavy, plus quieter roads and softer prices; April, May and October sit in between as transitional months. If you want the best riding weather, aim for December to February; if you want the best price, the rainy months are kinder to your wallet. Either way, book a few days in advance to guarantee availability.
In Vietnam you ride on the right-hand side of the road. A helmet is compulsory for both rider and passenger, and the police do enforce it. Speed limits in built-up areas are typically 40–50 km/h, rising a little on the open island loop road. There is effectively zero tolerance for drink-driving. Traffic on Phu Quoc is generally lighter and calmer than on the mainland, but unpaved or sandy stretches still appear on some rural roads, especially in the north, so ride defensively, keep your lights on, and take unsealed sections at a sensible pace, especially after rain.
