If someday you will be in Da Lat, Vietnam, do not think that your only options for getting around this hillside city are walking and public transport. You can always rent a scooter in Da Lat on our website and explore the “City of Eternal Spring” at your own pace. Da Lat sits in the central highlands at over 1,500 metres, wrapped in pine forest, flower farms and cool morning mist, with winding roads that climb past lakes, waterfalls and coffee plantations. A scooter is the easiest way to follow those roads wherever they lead, from a misty sunrise at Lang Biang to a coffee break at a hilltop café.

The city suits a scooter well: the centre is compact and easy to park in, while the surrounding highlands reward a rider who is happy to climb a hill for a view. Distances between waterfalls, lakes and viewpoints are just long enough that walking becomes tiring, and a scooter lets you cover them all in a single day at your own rhythm.

Top 10 things to see in Da Lat by scooter

  1. Xuan Huong Lake — the crescent-shaped lake at the heart of the city, a pleasant loop for an evening ride.
  2. Crazy House (Hang Nga Guesthouse) — a surreal, tree-like guesthouse of tunnels and curved rooms, unlike anything else in Vietnam.
  3. Datanla Waterfall — a forest waterfall just south of the city, reached by an easy ride with a toboggan track down to the falls.
  4. Elephant Falls (Thac Voi) — a powerful waterfall near Tan Chau village, a scenic half-hour ride from the centre.
  5. Lang Biang Mountain — the highest peak overlooking Da Lat, with a road most of the way up and sweeping highland views.
  6. Truc Lam Zen Monastery — a peaceful Buddhist monastery above Tuyen Lam Lake, reached by a winding forest road.
  7. Tuyen Lam Lake — a large, calm reservoir ringed by pine forest, ideal for a slow scenic loop.
  8. Valley of Love — a landscaped park with a lake and gardens, a favourite spot for a relaxed afternoon.
  9. Da Lat Flower Gardens — terraced gardens showing off the region’s famous flowers, especially colourful in the cooler months.
  10. Cau Dat Tea Hills — rolling tea plantations south-east of the city, a longer but rewarding ride through highland scenery.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Da Lat?

Requirements vary between rental companies, but common rules are as follows: you should be at least 18 years old, though some scooters are available from 16; for a 125cc machine an A1 licence is usually expected, while larger scooters call for a full A-class motorcycle licence. Foreign visitors should carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) together with their home licence — strictly, a Vietnamese-recognised motorcycle licence is required to ride legally, so check the terms of the specific provider on the booking page. Most companies also ask for a deposit, paid in cash or by card and refunded when you return the scooter in good condition.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Da Lat?

Scooter rental in Da Lat starts from around 130,000 VND per day for a small automatic and runs up to about 320,000 VND per day for a larger or newer model. As a popular highland getaway for both domestic and foreign tourists, prices move with the calendar:

  • High season (roughly December–March, plus local holidays) — the driest, coolest months and the busiest with Vietnamese weekend visitors: expect around 200,000–320,000 VND per day.
  • Low season (roughly June–September) — frequent afternoon rain keeps demand lower, so rates fall to around 130,000–200,000 VND per day.
  • Shoulder months (April–May, October–November) — sit in between, often a good compromise of weather and price.

In short, the cool, dry winter and Tet holiday period are the most expensive, while the rainy season offers the best value. Weekends year-round see higher demand than weekdays, since Da Lat is a favourite short break for visitors from Ho Chi Minh City, so we advise booking a few days ahead if your trip falls on a Friday or Saturday.

When to book a rental scooter in Da Lat?

Unlike most of Vietnam, Da Lat has a genuinely cool climate thanks to its elevation, with daytime temperatures rarely climbing much above 24–25°C and evenings that can feel chilly, so pack a light jacket whatever the season. The dry season runs roughly from December to March, with clear skies, cool mornings and the best riding conditions, making it also the busiest and priciest time to visit. From June to September the wet season brings frequent afternoon showers and mist, though mornings are often still fine for riding, and the city is noticeably quieter.

Local traffic rules

In Vietnam you ride on the right-hand side of the road. A helmet is compulsory for both rider and passenger. Da Lat’s roads are steep, winding and often shrouded in morning mist, so take hills and bends gently, use your horn lightly around blind corners, and watch for sudden fog on the outskirts. Speed limits in town are typically 40–50 km/h, and there is effectively zero tolerance for drink-driving.

If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
