Sitges has a way of slowing you down the moment you arrive, and a bicycle is the best way to let that happen on your own schedule. Ride the Passeig Marítim de Sitges at golden hour, stop wherever the light looks good, and you'll understand why so many visitors end up wishing they'd skipped the bus entirely. From there it's a short pedal to the headland where the whitewashed church watches over both main beaches, or further out along the coast road where the town gives way to cliffs and quiet coves.
What makes Sitges genuinely suited to two wheels is its size: this is a compact town where the seafront is flat, the old town's traffic is mild by Catalan standards, and almost everything worth seeing sits within a twenty- or thirty-minute ride. Push a little further and the coastal road toward Garraf rewards the effort in a way walking simply can't match — you get beaches, viewpoints and a proper sense of the coastline in one outing instead of three separate ones.
None of this needs paperwork. Spain requires no licence at all to ride a bicycle, at any age, so anyone in your group can join in. Most rental points ask for a deposit, usually held on a credit card, and a valid ID — no International Driving Permit or minimum age comes into it, since a bicycle simply doesn't carry those restrictions the way a scooter or motorcycle would.
Prices swing quite a bit across the year. In low season, roughly November to February, you can find a bike rental in Sitges for around 3 EUR a day. In peak summer, July and August, expect something closer to 8–12 EUR a day, with e-bikes or higher-spec models running higher again, plausibly 15–20 EUR a day at the busiest times.
If you're travelling in July or August — peak beach season and around the time of Sitges' Festa Major — book ahead, since this is when demand and prices both peak. Outside of that, from November through February, you'll find the lowest prices and little need to reserve far in advance. If you want good weather without the summer crowds or cost, May, June, September and October tend to be the sweet spot for riding here.
Spain drives on the right, and that applies to bicycles too — stay right, and expect traffic to pass you leaving at least 1.5 metres of clearance. Helmets are only compulsory for cyclists under 16 within town limits, though wearing one on the coastal road out to Garraf is a sensible habit regardless of age, since it counts as an interurban route where helmets are required for everyone. Urban speed limits sit at 50 km/h, dropping to 30 or even 20 km/h on narrower streets, so cars generally aren't moving fast around you. If you're combining cycling with a night out, keep in mind Spain's blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l — worth remembering before you hop back on the saddle.
