Koropi doesn't announce itself the way Athens does. There's no rush of traffic, no crowds pulling you toward the same three landmarks everyone else photographs. Instead you get quiet Mesogeia lanes, vineyards on the edge of town, and a straight shot toward the coast. Hop on a bicycle here and within an hour you can be standing at Vravrona, wandering the shaded ruins of an old sanctuary to Artemis, or pedalling further out to the cliffs of Cape Sounio for one of the most photographed sunsets in Attica.
What makes Koropi genuinely good cycling country is the terrain. The Mesogeia plain is flat, well away from central Athens's traffic, and threaded with roads short enough to link into a full day's loop. Villages, market towns and beaches all sit within reach of each other, so a bike rental in Koropi lets you string together stops a bus route never would — without ever wrestling with parking or Athens gridlock.
No licence is required to rent a bicycle in Koropi or anywhere else in Greece, and there's no minimum age set by law. Some rental operators may still ask for a small deposit, usually held on a credit card, and identification such as a passport. Since no licence is involved, you also won't need an International Driving Permit.
Expect to pay EUR 3–6 per day during low season and EUR 8–15 per day in high season, with premium models such as e-bikes running EUR 15–25 per day.
High season runs July through August, when prices are at their peak and popular models can sell out, so it's worth booking a few days ahead. Low season stretches from November to March, with the cheapest rates and no real need to plan far in advance. If you want the best of both worlds, May-June and September-October offer mild weather and lighter demand than the summer crush.
Greece drives on the right, and while helmets aren't a legal requirement for cyclists, wearing one is always a sensible precaution on shared roads. Built-up areas carry a 50 km/h speed limit for motor traffic, rising to 90 km/h on open roads, so give vehicles room and stick to quieter lanes where you can. If you're cycling after a meal with wine, keep in mind Greece's blood-alcohol limit for drivers is 0.5 g/l — a good reason to keep it light before getting back in the saddle.
