If someday you will be in Da Nang, Vietnam, do not think that your only options for getting around are walking and public transport. You can always rent a scooter in Da Nang on our website and explore this coastal city at your own pace. Da Nang stretches along a long sweep of beach between the Han River and the Son Tra Peninsula, and a scooter is by far the easiest way to follow the seafront, cross the Dragon Bridge and slip out to the Marble Mountains whenever you feel like it. A scooter is eco-friendly, cheap to run, and you will see far more than you would from a taxi window. On this page you will find a full guide to scooter rental in Da Nang.

The city suits a moped perfectly: the roads are wide and flat, parking is cheap and often free, and the coastal boulevard almost asks to be ridden slowly with the sea on one side. On a scooter you can catch the Dragon Bridge breathing fire on a weekend night, ride up to the Lady Buddha on Son Tra, or head south to the caves and temples of the Marble Mountains in under half an hour.

Top 10 things to see in Da Nang by scooter

  1. Marble Mountains — five limestone hills riddled with caves, pagodas and viewpoints; park at the foot and climb for a panorama of the coast.
  2. Dragon Bridge — the city’s icon, which breathes fire and water on Saturday and Sunday nights; easy to reach and free to watch.
  3. Son Tra Peninsula & Lady Buddha — a green headland with the towering Linh Ung Pagoda and sweeping bends made for a scooter.
  4. My Khe Beach — the long city beach for a swim, a coconut and a seafood lunch, minutes from the centre.
  5. Ba Na Hills (base station) — ride out west, then take the cable car up to the famous Golden Bridge.
  6. Hai Van Pass — one of Vietnam’s greatest coastal rides, climbing north out of the city with the sea far below.
  7. Linh Ung Pagoda — the seaside temple beneath the Lady Buddha statue, calm and worth the short climb.
  8. Cham Museum — the world’s largest collection of Cham sculpture, an easy stop by the river.
  9. Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village — artisan workshops at the foot of the Marble Mountains.
  10. Lang Co Lagoon — a scenic day trip north over the pass to a calm turquoise lagoon.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Da Nang?

Required documents vary between rental companies, but common rules are as follows: you should be at least 18 years old, though some scooters are available from 16; for a 125cc machine an A1 licence is usually expected, while larger scooters call for a full A-class motorcycle licence. Foreign visitors should carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) together with their home licence — strictly, a Vietnamese-recognised motorcycle licence is required to ride legally, so check the terms of the specific provider on the booking page. Most companies also ask for a deposit; on the scooters currently listed in Da Nang the deposit is around 300 USD, paid in cash or by card and refunded when you return the scooter in good condition.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Da Nang?

Scooter rental in Da Nang starts from around 320,000 VND per day and runs up to about 540,000 VND per day for a larger, newer model. The scooters on offer are automatic Hondas — a 125cc Honda Airblade at the affordable end and a 160cc Honda PCX at the top — so what you pay depends on the engine size you choose and, importantly, on the time of year. Prices in Da Nang follow a clear seasonal pattern across the calendar:

  • January–February (low season) — the cheapest months: from about 320,000 VND per day for a 125cc, around 400,000 VND for a 160cc.
  • March–September (high season) — the sunny, busy months, and the most expensive: expect roughly 430,000 VND per day for a 125cc and up to 540,000 VND for a 160cc.
  • October–December (low season) — prices drop back down to the January level, from about 320,000 VND per day, as the rains arrive.

In short, you will pay the most between March and September and save the most in the quieter, wetter months at either end of the year. Weekends and Vietnamese public holidays are the real peak within any season, so we advise booking a few days in advance to guarantee availability at the best price.

When to book a rental scooter in Da Nang?

The dry season, from roughly February to August, is the most pleasant time to ride and the busiest, with clear skies over the coast. The wetter months run from September to December, when the roads are quieter and rates fall back to the low-season level, but short heavy downpours are common. If you want the best weather, aim for the spring and early summer; if you want the best price, the turn of the year is kinder to your wallet.

Local traffic rules

In Vietnam you ride on the right-hand side of the road. A helmet is compulsory for both rider and passenger, and the police do enforce it. Speed limits in built-up areas are typically 40–50 km/h, rising on open roads. There is effectively zero tolerance for drink-driving. Traffic in Vietnam flows in its own rhythm: stay calm, move predictably, use your horn lightly to signal your presence rather than in anger, and give way to bigger vehicles. Ride defensively, keep your lights on, and take the busiest junctions gently until you feel comfortable.
