Surat Thani doesn't announce itself the way Phuket or Chiang Mai do — it's the kind of place you have to go looking for, and a quad bike is the way to do it. Point yours west out of town and you'll roll past rubber plantations and coconut groves on the way to Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya Woramahawihan, a Srivijaya-era chedi that's been drawing pilgrims for centuries, or south along quiet coastal lanes toward the mangroves near Tha Chana. This is riding for its own sake as much as for the sights: empty back roads, river air, and a pace nobody else on a package tour gets to set.
What makes Surat Thani a quad-bike province rather than a scooter one is simply geography. The temples, waterfalls and cave shrines worth seeing aren't clustered in one walkable old town — they're scattered across the mainland, linked by plantation tracks and rural roads that a scooter handles poorly once the pavement runs out. A quad gives you the clearance and stability for that terrain without needing a full-size car for the narrower dirt approaches near waterfalls and caves.
You'll generally need to be 18 or over, though some operators set their own minimum. Quad bikes here are mostly used off-road or on private tour tracks rather than public roads, so licence requirements vary by operator — check with them directly before booking. A deposit is standard practice; we'd suggest offering cash or a photocopy of your passport rather than handing over the original.
A basic quad starts around 550–650 THB per day in low season, rising to 800–1200 THB per day in high season for a standard model. Larger-engine or newer quads run 1200–2000 THB per day.
High season runs November through February, when dry weather and clear roads make riding easiest — book ahead if you're travelling around the December–January peak. Low season stretches May to October, through the southwest monsoon, when rates drop and there's rarely a need to book far in advance.
Thailand drives on the left, so keep left and overtake on the right. Helmets are compulsory for rider and passenger alike and are enforced with on-the-spot fines. Speed limits sit around 60 km/h in built-up areas and up to 90 km/h on rural highways. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, checked routinely at roadside stops, especially around holidays — watch too for sand and gravel on coastal bends and sudden monsoon downpours that make road markings slippery.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.
On our website you can hire quad bikes from the following manufacturers: Yamaha, Honda, Polaris, Can-Am, CFMoto, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Linhai, TGB.
Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
Most of our local quad bike rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-maintained quad, helmet, guide and friendly service. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a quad bike, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
