Da Nang rewards anyone willing to go looking for it, and a quad-bike is the easiest way to do that. Head up onto Son Tra Peninsula and you will find switchback roads through jungle canopy, sea cliffs dropping straight into the South China Sea, and troops of wild macaques watching you pass. Push further north and the road climbs into the Hai Van Pass, one of the great coastal drives in Southeast Asia, all hairpins and open ocean views. This is the kind of riding you simply cannot get from the back of a taxi.
The city's landmarks are scattered across coastline, hillside and mountain pass, close enough together to link in a day but too spread out to walk. Roads outside the centre are quiet and mostly well paved, so you do not need serious off-road experience to enjoy them. That combination — light traffic, good surfaces, and terrain built for exploring — is exactly what makes a quad-bike rental in Da Nang such a natural fit.
Quad bikes sit outside normal road-licensing rules in Vietnam — they are mostly ridden on dunes, tracks and rental-company routes rather than checked like a motorcycle, so most operators will not ask for a licence. Some still set their own minimum age, commonly 18. Expect to leave a deposit, either in cash or your passport held as security; the amount depends on the shop and the bike. If you plan to also rent a scooter or motorcycle above 50cc elsewhere in the country, you would need an International Driving Permit in the 1968 format — the US-style 1949 Geneva IDP is not valid here.
Average rental price runs around 350,000-400,000 VND per day during low season and climbs to roughly 550,000-700,000 VND per day in high season. Bigger or newer models, and multi-day tour packages, can run 800,000-1,000,000 VND per day and up.
High season runs roughly December through March — book ahead if you are travelling then, since bikes get scarce and prices rise, especially around Tet. Low season falls in the shoulder months of April to June and September to October, when you will find better rates and more availability without needing to book far in advance.
Vietnam drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers alike on any motorised two- or four-wheeler, and checks are routine. There is a zero blood-alcohol limit — any detectable alcohol counts as an offence, and roadside breath tests are common, especially at night. Speed limits vary by road type and whether you are inside a built-up area, so read the posted signs rather than assume a flat number. Headlights are required after dark, and motorcycles are barred from expressways and a handful of major bridges and tunnels, so stick to the routes your rental operator recommends.
