Picture swapping the car for something more fun: rolling out of Crema's centre on a quad, engine humming, with nothing but flat farmland and river paths ahead of you. The Lombard countryside around the Duomo di Crema opens up fast once you leave the piazza, and within minutes you can be tracing the Serio riverbanks or heading toward the pilgrimage church of Santa Maria della Croce. This is a corner of Italy most visitors skip on their way between Milan and the lakes — which is exactly why it rewards anyone willing to explore it slowly, on their own schedule.

Crema sits right in the Cremasco plain, and that geography is what makes a quad such a natural fit here. There are no hills to climb, no tight mountain switchbacks to worry about — just wide gravel tracks along the river, quiet farm roads between villages, and short, flat hops to nearby towns. It's easy, low-skill riding that still covers real ground, letting you reach spread-out countryside sights in an afternoon that would take all day on foot or by bike.

Top 10 things to see in Crema by quad

  1. Duomo di Crema (Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta) — the Gothic-Romanesque cathedral anchoring the historic centre, and the obvious point to start your ride.
  2. Santuario di Santa Maria della Croce — a striking Renaissance pilgrimage church just outside town, a short and popular run from the centre.
  3. Castello Visconteo di Pandino — a well-preserved 14th-century Visconti castle a short hop away, perfect for a countryside loop.
  4. Parco del Serio — the regional river park, with flat gravel tracks running along the water — the classic route near Crema.
  5. Ripalta Guerina — a small riverside hamlet on the Serio, ideal for a scenic, easy detour.
  6. Ripalta Vecchia and the Serio riverbanks — quiet stretches of countryside favoured for relaxed off-town riding.
  7. Cremona historic centre — home to the Torrazzo tower and the city's Stradivari violin heritage, a feasible day trip from Crema.
  8. Lodi historic centre — another nearby town with a fine piazza, linked to Crema by open countryside roads.
  9. Palazzo Comunale and Piazza Duomo — Crema's civic square, a natural loop start or end point and a good photo stop.
  10. Countryside lanes of the Cremasco — the flat farmland roads between Crema, Offanengo and Izano, made for leisurely quad riding.

What do you need to rent a quad in Crema?

Requirements depend on the machine: lighter quadricycles can be ridden on a category AM licence, while heavier or more powerful models need at least a B1 or a full car (B) licence — ask your rental operator which class their quad falls under. Riders under 21 or holding a licence for under three years should also expect a zero alcohol tolerance. If your licence was issued outside the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit. Most operators set their own minimum age, usually 18, and will take a deposit as a credit card hold or cash, scaled to the value of the vehicle, alongside a copy of your ID or passport.

How much does it cost to rent a quad in Crema?

Prices move with the season, and booking through BikesBooking.com you'll see the range clearly at search time.

  • Low season (roughly November to February): around EUR 15-20 per day.
  • High season (July-August): EUR 30-45 per day, with premium models running EUR 50-70 per day.

When to book a rental quad in Crema?

July and August are the priciest months and also the busiest, so book ahead if you're planning a summer visit. For lower rates and quieter roads, aim for the cooler months between November and February, or the shoulder months of May, June, September and early October, when the countryside is pleasant to ride and availability is easier to come by.

Local traffic rules in Crema

Italy drives on the right, and helmets are mandatory for every rider and passenger on a quadricycle, with no exceptions by age. Inside built-up areas the speed limit is 50 km/h, rising to 90 km/h on ordinary roads outside town; lighter quads may be further restricted depending on their class. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to zero for riders under 21 or with less than three years of licence-holding. Keep dipped headlights on at all times when riding outside built-up areas, and if your route takes you through Cremona or Lodi's historic centres, watch for camera-enforced ZTL zones — entering without a permit brings an automatic fine.
