Venice isn't only the city of canals — step off the historic islands and onto the Lido or the mainland, and it opens up into flat roads, pinewoods and countryside made for a quad. Ride the seafront promenade at Lido di Venezia, roll through the quiet fishing lanes of Malamocco, or head inland along the Riviera del Brenta past the grand villas that once belonged to Venetian nobility. It's a different side of the lagoon, and one most visitors never see.
Central Venice bans motor vehicles outright, so a quad only makes sense once you're past the islands. That's exactly where it earns its keep: Mestre, the Lido and the lagoon shore are full of long, flat stretches between beaches, villas and fishing villages — too far to walk, too spread out for the bus, and perfect for exploring at your own pace on sandy tracks and quiet backroads.
Licence requirements depend on the machine: lighter quadricycles can be ridden on a moped-level (AM) licence, while heavier or more powerful ones need at least a B1 or a full car licence. Ask the rental operator which class their specific quad falls under. If your licence was issued outside the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it. Most operators set their own minimum age, typically 18, and will ask for a deposit — usually a credit card hold, sometimes cash — scaled to the value of the vehicle, along with a copy of your ID or passport.
Our listings start from around EUR 15 per day in low season, rising to roughly EUR 35–60 per day in high season. Larger-engine or newer models can run EUR 60–90 per day.
High season runs June through August, when beach traffic on the Lido and coastal roads is at its heaviest and prices sit at their highest. Low season stretches from November to March, with quieter roads and the cheapest rates. If you'd rather skip the crowds without paying peak prices, May, June, September and early October tend to offer the best balance of good weather and easier availability — book ahead regardless, since local operators fill up fast once the weather turns.
Italy drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a quad bike, no exceptions by age. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on ordinary roads outside towns, and up to 110 km/h on main extra-urban dual carriageways — quadricycles may face lower caps depending on their class, so check with your rental provider. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to zero for anyone who has held a licence for less than three years. Keep dipped headlights on at all times when riding outside built-up areas, and remember that Venice's historic centre is off-limits to motor vehicles entirely — a quad rental is for exploring the Lido, the mainland and the lagoon shore, not the canals themselves.
