Bophut moves at its own pace — wooden shophouses along Fisherman's Village, fishing boats bobbing offshore, the road east curling out toward the golden statue at Big Buddha Temple. Rent a quad bike here and that whole stretch of Koh Samui opens up: you can be parked at the causeway to Wat Phra Yai in fifteen minutes, then climb inland toward the hillside statues of the Secret Buddha Garden by afternoon. It's the kind of island where the best things aren't on the coast road at all.
Samui is only about 25km across, but its interior is where a quad earns its keep. The roads up to the viewpoints, waterfalls and the Secret Buddha Garden are steep, narrow, and only partly paved — terrain that rewards four wheels and a low centre of gravity over a scooter, especially if you're not a confident rider. Traffic around Bophut and Chaweng stays light compared to Bangkok or Phuket, so hopping between beaches feels relaxed rather than hair-raising, and no detour ever really costs you a whole day.
You'll need a motorcycle-category licence — either a Thai licence or your home licence backed by an International Driving Permit with the motorcycle entitlement. Quad bikes and ATVs generally aren't registered for public roads in Thailand, so most rentals here are for off-road tours or private tracks, and requirements can vary by operator. Most shops set a minimum age of 18, and you should expect to leave a deposit — hand over cash or a photocopy of your passport rather than the original document.
Expect around 550–650 THB per day in low season, rising to roughly 900–1,200 THB per day in high season, with larger-engine or newer models running 1,300–1,800 THB per day.
High season runs November to February, when demand and prices both climb, so it's worth booking a little ahead. Low season stretches May to October during the southwest monsoon, though the Gulf coast islands like Samui tend to see their wettest weather around October to December rather than matching the mainland pattern exactly — this is also when rates are at their lowest. March to May is dry but hot, and mid-April brings Songkran, best avoided on two or four wheels given how busy the roads get.
Thailand drives on the left, with overtaking on the right. Helmets are compulsory for rider and passenger alike and checkpoints do enforce this with on-the-spot fines. Speed limits sit around 60 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on rural roads. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, and riding without the right licence or a helmet will typically void your insurance, so it pays to keep your documents on you at all times.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
Most of our local quad bike rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-maintained quad, helmet, guide and friendly service. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a quad bike, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
