Picture Hoi An's lantern-lit Ancient Town at your back and an open coastal road ahead — that's the pull of a quad-bike ride here. Rent a quad bike in Hoi An and you can be sipping coconut water by the water village of Cam Thanh within twenty minutes, or racing the tide along Cua Dai Beach before lunch. It's a different pace than a scooter and a different world than the tour bus: you set the route, you choose when to stop, and you can turn down whichever farm lane or river track looks interesting.

Hoi An's old quarter is flat, walkable, and largely closed to traffic, so the town itself asks for nothing more than your feet. But the real reason to book a quad bike rental in Hoi An is what lies just beyond it: beaches, river islands, and countryside sit five to thirty kilometres out along quiet, well-surfaced roads, with none of the horn-heavy chaos you'd meet riding into central Da Nang. A quad is also simply easier to handle than a scooter if you're not used to Vietnamese traffic, while still letting you pull over on a whim for a photo, a coffee, or a look at the rice paddies.

Top 10 things to see in Hoi An by quad bike

  1. Hoi An Ancient Town — the UNESCO old quarter of lantern-strung streets, a natural start and finish point for any ride.
  2. An Bang Beach — the closest beach to town, reached by a short, scenic coastal run.
  3. Cua Dai Beach — a classic stretch of sand along the coast road, good for an easy loop.
  4. Tra Que Vegetable Village — quiet farm lanes on the edge of town, ideal for a relaxed village circuit.
  5. Thu Bon River / Cam Kim Island — cross by ferry, then explore peaceful back roads on the island side.
  6. Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son) — limestone hills riddled with caves and pagodas, a popular stop on the way toward Da Nang.
  7. My Son Sanctuary — Cham temple ruins set inland, worth the longer countryside ride.
  8. Ba Na Hills / Golden Bridge — the well-known viewpoint and cable-car complex further north.
  9. Hai Van Pass — the iconic coastal mountain road linking the Hoi An/Da Nang area with Hue.
  10. Coconut Village (Bay Mau Coconut Forest, Cam Thanh) — a palm-lined water village just south of town, best paired with a basket-boat ride.

What do you need to rent a quad bike in Hoi An?

Quad bikes aren't treated as ordinary road vehicles in Vietnam, so the usual motorcycle licence rules don't apply in the same way — rental operators generally run these as guided or supervised experiences rather than checking for a specific licence class. Even so, it's worth carrying a valid driving licence and, if you have one, an International Driving Permit in the 1968 Vienna Convention format (a 1949 Geneva-style IDP, the kind issued in the US, isn't recognised here). Most shops set their own minimum age, commonly 18, and will ask for a cash deposit or hold your passport as security — amounts vary by shop and by bike.

How much does it cost to rent a quad bike in Hoi An?

Expect to pay around 390,000–450,000 VND per day in low season, rising to roughly 550,000–750,000 VND in high season, with larger or newer four-seat models running 800,000–1,100,000 VND per day.

  • Prices peak from December to March, and especially around Tết (late January to early February), when demand is highest and some shops close.
  • Rates ease off from April through August, with the shoulder months of May and June often the best value.

When to book a rental quad bike in Hoi An?

December to March is Hoi An's high season for international visitors — dry weather, busy roads, and the highest prices, so book a few days ahead. From September to November central Vietnam runs its own low season, driven by typhoons and heavier rain rather than heat, which also makes it the cheapest and quietest stretch to rent. April, May and early June sit in between: warm, mostly dry, and easier on the wallet than winter.

Local traffic rules in Hoi An

Vietnam drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a motorised two-wheeler, and police do check. There's a zero blood-alcohol limit for anyone riding or driving — no allowance at all, so save the rice wine for after you've parked. Speed limits are posted rather than fixed nationwide, running lower through built-up stretches of town and higher on the open coast road, so follow the signs as you go. Most of our quad rentals in Hoi An come with a well-maintained vehicle, a helmet, and friendly local guidance to get you started.
