Pattaya rewards anyone willing to get off the main strip, and the easiest way to do that is on two wheels. Head north along the coast and you'll reach the Sanctuary of Truth, a soaring all-wood temple palace that photographs beautifully in the late-afternoon light, or swing inland past Khao Chi Chan to picnic among the vines at Silverlake Vineyard. A short ride you'd never manage on foot turns into an afternoon of temples, viewpoints and quiet beaches that most package tourists never see.
Pattaya's sights are scattered across a wide stretch of coast and countryside, from Jomtien and Bang Saray in the south to Khao Chi Chan and the Mabprachan reservoir inland, distances that make taxis and songthaews slow and expensive by comparison. Roads here are mostly flat with a few gentle hills, and traffic is far lighter than in Bangkok, so a **scooter rental in Pattaya** lets you string beaches, temples and viewpoints into one easy loop at your own pace.
To legally ride, you need a motorcycle-category licence — either a Thai licence or your home licence together with an International Driving Permit carrying the motorcycle entitlement. Some shops will hand over the keys without checking, but police checkpoints do, and your insurance is void without the right paperwork. Most rentals set a minimum age of 18. Expect to leave a deposit; ask to pay in cash or leave a photocopy of your passport rather than the original.
A basic automatic scooter runs roughly 190–250 THB per day in low season, rising to around 300–400 THB during the high season. If you want something bigger — a PCX or Click 160, or a 300cc+ motorcycle — budget 700–1,500 THB per day.
High season runs November through February, when dry weather and cooler evenings bring the crowds and the best riding conditions — book a few days ahead if you're arriving over the holidays. Low season stretches from May to October, through the southwest monsoon; rain showers are common but rarely last long, and prices drop noticeably. If you're chasing the cheapest rate, aim for September or October.
Thailand drives on the left, so overtake on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and police do issue on-the-spot fines for riding without one. Speed limits sit around 60 km/h in town and up to 90 km/h on rural highways; motorcycles aren't allowed on motorways. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, dropping to 0.02% for riders under 20. Watch for sand and loose gravel on coastal bends, and slow down the moment a monsoon shower starts — wet paint markings get slippery fast.
