Pag looks like nowhere else on the Adriatic — a long, bare, wind-carved island where limestone hills meet turquoise coves, and a scooter is the perfect way to take it all in. Ride out from Pag Town toward the party crowds of Zrće Beach, or take the coastal road to Novalja for an evening among its harbourside cafés. Either way, you'll cover ground that feels made for two wheels rather than four.
Pag is narrow and elongated, with short hops between its main towns and a mostly quiet, twisty coastal road linking them. Traffic is light outside the busiest summer weeks, parking near the beaches is scarce for cars, and the sun-baked, open terrain rewards short, breezy rides rather than long highway stretches. If you want to rent a scooter in Pag, this is exactly the kind of island where it pays off.
Croatia requires a moped/scooter licence (category AM), or a higher motorcycle category, for anything on two wheels — a plain car licence is not enough for a 125cc scooter here. Most agencies set 18 as the practical minimum age. You'll also need to leave a deposit, usually as a credit-card hold, released when the scooter comes back undamaged. If your licence was issued outside the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with the physical card.
Prices move a lot across the year. Expect roughly 5-8 EUR per day in low season and 15-25 EUR per day in high season, with premium models running 25-35 EUR per day.
High season runs June to August, with July and August the busiest and most expensive stretch along the whole Croatian coast — book ahead if you're travelling then, since stock at rental shops can run out. Low season falls between November and March, when many island rental shops scale back or close, but the ones that stay open charge noticeably less. For the best balance of good weather and lighter crowds, aim for May, June or September.
Croatia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any scooter or moped, no exceptions. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads, though mopeds are capped at their construction speed of 45 km/h and can't be taken onto motorways. Headlights must stay on at all times on a scooter, day and night. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05% for most riders, but it drops to zero for anyone under 25. Checks are common on the coastal roads in summer, so it's worth keeping to the limits.
