Šibenik doesn't announce itself the way Dubrovnik or Split do, and that's exactly what makes it worth exploring on two wheels. Weave up from the harbor toward the honey-stone dome of the Cathedral of St. James, then keep climbing to St. Michael's Fortress, where the whole old town and the Adriatic open up below you. A scooter lets you string these moments together in an afternoon instead of a week, then carry you further out along the coast road to Vodice or inland toward the waterfalls of Krka, at your own pace and without waiting on a bus timetable.
The old town itself is a tangle of stone stairs and pedestrian lanes, so you'll be walking there regardless — but everything worth reaching beyond it sits along narrow, winding roads that punish a car and suit a small bike perfectly. Most of Šibenik's best sights are 10 to 30 minutes apart, parking is a non-issue on a scooter, and the tight coastal bends toward Jadrija or the fortress hills reward something light and nimble far more than a rented sedan ever could. If you want to rent a scooter in Šibenik, this is a city built for exactly that kind of freedom.
Croatia is stricter than Italy or Spain here: a plain car licence won't let you ride anything above 50cc. For a 50cc scooter you'll need at least a moped licence (category AM); for anything bigger, category A1 or higher. Bring the physical licence card, since rental agencies match the vehicle to what's printed on it. If your licence was issued outside the EU or EEA, carry an International Driving Permit as well. Most agencies set 18 as the practical minimum age, and you should expect a deposit, usually held on a credit card, refunded when the scooter comes back undamaged.
On our website, basic 50cc scooter rentals in Šibenik start from EUR 5 per day in low season. In peak summer, prices for a 50cc climb to roughly EUR 30–45 per day, while larger 125cc–300cc scooters and maxi-scooters run EUR 45–65, and premium touring models like the Piaggio MP3 300 can reach EUR 65–90 during July and August.
High season runs June through August, with July and August the peak — book ahead, since stock along the coast sells out and prices sit at their highest. Low season stretches from November to March, when many coastal shops trim their fleets or close altogether, but the ones that stay open charge noticeably less. If you'd rather skip both the heat and the crowds, May, June, September and early October give you warm, dry riding weather without the summer squeeze.
Croatia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on any scooter or moped, no exceptions. Speed limits are 50 km/h in town, 90 km/h on open roads, and up to 130 km/h on motorways, though mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and barred from motorways entirely. Headlights stay on day and night on any two-wheeler. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, but it drops to zero for drivers under 25 — worth remembering, since police checks along the coastal road are common in summer.
