Picture leaving the ferry at Supetar and, within the hour, standing at the foot of Zlatni Rat with the shingle spit stretching into the Adriatic ahead of you. That kind of morning is exactly what a scooter buys you on Brač — the freedom to chase the coast to Bol for lunch, then double back through olive groves to a quiet village nobody puts on a postcard. This island rewards wandering, and a scooter is how you actually do it.

Brač's roads are narrow, hilly, and often down to a single lane once you leave the main towns, with parking in Bol and Supetar both limited and expensive in summer. A scooter slips through where a car would crawl, and you can leave it right outside a café or trailhead instead of hunting for a space. Distances are short too — Supetar to Bol is under an hour — so a single day's ride can string together beaches, viewpoints, and stone villages that a car rental would make slower and pricier.

Top 10 things to see in Brač Island by scooter

  1. Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape), Bol — Croatia's most famous beach, a shifting shingle spit reached by a scenic ride of around 40km from Supetar.
  2. Vidova Gora — the highest peak on any Adriatic island at 778m, with a paved-then-gravel road up to a viewpoint over Zlatni Rat and the Hvar channel.
  3. Blaca Hermitage (Pustinja Blaca) — an isolated stone monastery tucked in a gorge, reached by a rough access road followed by a short hike.
  4. Bol Old Town — a harbor town of waterfront cafés, worth the ride along the scenic south shore.
  5. Škrip — Brač's oldest village, home to the Brač Museum and Radić Tower, an easy short hop inland from Supetar.
  6. Pučišća — famous for its white limestone quarries and stone-masonry school, on the island's north coast.
  7. Milna — a picturesque bay and marina on the west coast, a relaxed coastal ride from Supetar.
  8. Sutivan — a quiet seaside village near Supetar with a small harbor and lovely sunset views.
  9. Supetar Waterfront and the Petrinović Mausoleum — most rentals start here, and the Art Nouveau mausoleum is an easy walk or ride away.
  10. Murvica and the Dragon's Cave area — the coastal road near Bol leading toward the trailhead for the carved Zmajeva špilja.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Brač Island?

In Croatia a plain car licence isn't enough — anything over 50cc requires at least an A1 motorcycle category, and true 50cc mopeds call for an AM licence. You'll generally need to be at least 18, and if your licence was issued outside the EU or EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with the original. Expect to leave a deposit, usually held on a credit card, which is released when the scooter comes back undamaged.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Brač Island?

Prices swing a lot with the season. A basic scooter runs roughly 20-30 EUR per day in high season, while a premium model can reach 30-40 EUR per day.

  • July and August are the priciest months, when demand across the island peaks.
  • Shoulder months like April, May and October bring rates down to around 5-10 EUR per day, with far fewer crowds.
  • Many rental shops close entirely over deep winter, so don't count on finding one open from November through March.

When to book a rental scooter in Brač Island?

If you're chasing the lowest prices and don't mind a shorter list of open shops, aim for April, May or October. High season runs June through August, with July and August the busiest and most expensive stretch — book ahead if you're travelling then, since island stock sells out fast. Outside of summer, walking in a day or two ahead is usually enough.

Local traffic rules in Brač Island

Croatia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any scooter or moped, no exceptions. Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns and 90 km/h on the open road, though mopeds are capped at 45 km/h. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05% for most riders, but zero tolerance applies if you're under 25. Scooters and mopeds must run with headlights on at all times, day and night.

Rental shops on the island generally hand over a well-kept scooter, a helmet, and friendly local advice on which roads to skip when it's busy. If you want to rent a scooter in Brač Island, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
