Verona is a city best explored on two wheels, and not just within its Roman walls. Rent a motorcycle in Verona and you can be threading the curves of the Gardesana road along Lake Garda within the hour, or climbing switchbacks toward Monte Baldo before lunch. Start the day at the Arena, end it watching the sun drop over the lake — that's the kind of range a bike gives you here that a bus tour never will.
The historic centre is compact and largely closed to traffic, which makes it a poor fit for a car but a perfect base for a rider. Everything worth seeing in Verona itself is walkable, so the real reason to book a motorcycle rental in Verona is what lies just beyond it: the Valpolicella wine hills, the Lessinia plateau, and Lake Garda all sit under an hour away, linked by quiet, curvy secondary roads. A scooter handles the in-town errands and short lake hops with ease; a mid-size or premium bike is what you want for the longer loops toward Monte Baldo or further into the Dolomites foothills.
The licence you need depends on the bike's class: category A1 covers up to 125cc, A2 covers mid-power machines, and full category A is required for anything unrestricted. EU licences are valid as issued; if yours was issued outside the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with it. Rental operators typically set their own minimum age, usually 18 and up, and some ask that you've held your licence for a minimum period on larger bikes. Expect to leave a deposit, usually a credit card hold, scaled to the value of the machine.
Prices are quoted in EUR and move with the season and the size of the bike.
High season runs June through August, plus the Easter period, with July and August the busiest and priciest months. Low season stretches from November through March, when rates drop and some outlets reduce their hours. If you want warm, dry riding without the midsummer crowds and heat, aim for May, June, September or early October — availability is easier and prices sit well below the July–August peak.
Italy drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a scooter or motorcycle, no exceptions. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on ordinary roads outside town, and 110 km/h on main extra-urban dual carriageways. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to zero if you've held your licence less than three years. Dipped headlights must stay on at all times while riding. One more thing worth knowing: Verona's historic centre falls under a camera-enforced ZTL zone, and riding into it without a permit means a fine that catches up with you months later, plus an admin fee from the rental company.
