Picture cruising through the Brandenburger Tor at sunrise, the wide expanse of Pariser Platz nearly empty, before opening up the throttle down Straße des 17. Juni toward the Siegessäule. That's the kind of morning a motorcycle buys you here — no U-Bahn transfers, no waiting for a bus that's ten minutes late. If you want to rent a motorcycle in Berlin, our website puts you on two wheels and lets you thread through Kreuzberg's backstreets, glide across the Oberbaumbrücke, or chase the murals along the East Side Gallery, all before lunch.
Berlin was practically built for this. The center is flat, gridded, and laced with broad boulevards like Karl-Marx-Allee, so a bike slips past the traffic that swallows cars whole and never has to circle the block hunting for parking. And once you're bored of the city grid, that same freedom stretches outward — to the forested curves around Grunewald and Wannsee, or the countryside loop around Müggelsee, places the S-Bahn only gets you halfway to.
The licence class depends on the machine. An A1 licence covers bikes up to 125 cc / 11 kW from age 16, A2 covers up to 35 kW from 18, and full class A is unrestricted from 24 (or from 20 with two years on A2). Car-licence holders can add the B196 extension for 125 cc bikes, but that only works inside Germany, so visitors on a foreign licence will need the proper motorcycle class. Most rental companies set their own minimum age, usually 18 and up, sometimes with a minimum time you must have held the licence. A deposit is standard, normally a hold on a credit card in the main driver's name, and the amount varies by machine. If your licence isn't from the EU or EEA, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with it.
Average rental prices run 25–35 EUR per day during low season and 45–70 EUR during high season, with large-displacement or premium touring bikes going for 80–150+ EUR per day.
High season runs May to September, with July and August the busiest thanks to school holidays — book ahead if you want a specific model. Low season is November to March, when many operators shrink their fleets or close for winter altogether, so cheaper rates come with fewer choices. For the sweet spot, aim for late May, June, or September: mild weather, long daylight, and noticeably lighter traffic than midsummer.
Germany drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every motorcycle rider and passenger, no exceptions. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 100 km/h on rural roads outside them; much of the Autobahn has no general limit, though an advisory 130 km/h applies and many stretches post their own signs. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to zero if you're under 21 or still in your first two years of holding a licence. Ride with your headlight on at all times, day or night, and remember that right-before-left is the default rule at unmarked junctions, even in quiet residential streets.
