Saint-Tropez rewards anyone willing to skip the traffic and ride straight into it. Point a scooter south from the harbor and you can be parking your feet in the sand at Plage de Pampelonne in ten minutes, or climbing the hill to the Citadelle de Saint-Tropez for a view over the whole gulf before the day-trip buses even arrive. This is a town built on short distances and long summer queues, and a scooter is how you skip the second part.

Between the port, the beach clubs and the hilltop villages inland, everything here sits five to fifteen minutes apart — but the lanes are narrow, parking is scarce and pricey, and in July and August the roads into the peninsula crawl with rental cars circling for a space. A scooter slips through all of that. If you want to rent a scooter in Saint-Tropez, you trade valet queues and shuttle timetables for the freedom to just go.

Top 10 things to see in Saint-Tropez by scooter

  1. Plage de Pampelonne — the iconic beach strip lined with clubs like Nikki Beach and Club 55, an easy ride from town.
  2. Citadelle de Saint-Tropez — a hilltop fortress with sweeping views over the port and the gulf.
  3. Phare du Cap Camarat — a short, scenic run south to a lighthouse and a wide Mediterranean viewpoint.
  4. Plage de Tahiti — the laid-back stretch of Pampelonne known for its beach-club atmosphere.
  5. Ramatuelle village — a hilltop village a few minutes inland, made for wandering narrow streets and browsing the market.
  6. Gassin — a perched village nearby with panoramic views, often paired with Ramatuelle on one loop.
  7. Port de Saint-Tropez — the famous yacht harbor and waterfront cafes, the town's natural meeting point.
  8. Sentier du Littoral — ride to a trailhead near Cap Camarat or Pampelonne and walk a stretch of coastal path.
  9. Môle Jean Réveille — the harbor breakwater, good for the classic photo back over the port and citadel.
  10. Plage des Salins — a quieter beach east of town, a nice change of pace from Pampelonne.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Saint-Tropez?

For a 50cc scooter you need an AM licence, available from age 14 after a short training course — anyone with a full car licence, or born before 1 January 1988, qualifies automatically. Stepping up to a 125cc scooter means either an A1 motorcycle licence or a category B car licence held for at least two years, plus a mandatory 7-hour training course. Rental agencies here commonly set their own minimum age, often higher than the legal one, and will hold a deposit on your card until the scooter comes back undamaged. Non-EU visitors should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Saint-Tropez?

Prices swing hard with the season. In low season you can find scooters from around 5 to 15 EUR per day; in high season expect roughly 35 to 60 EUR per day, and larger or premium models — 125cc and up, Vespa-style included — can run 70 to 100+ EUR per day in July and August.

  • November through March: the cheapest window, with our own listings starting around 5 EUR/day.
  • July and August: the most expensive months, when demand along the Riviera peaks.

When to book a rental scooter in Saint-Tropez?

If you can travel outside July and August, you'll ride the same coast roads for a fraction of the price and won't be fighting for a parking spot at every beach club. High season runs June through August, peaking hard in the second half of July and all of August, so book well ahead if that's your window. Low season, November to March, is quieter and cheaper, though some outlets reduce their hours. For the best mix of sunshine and value, aim for June or September.

Local traffic rules in Saint-Tropez

France drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a scooter, and the helmet needs four reflective stickers to be road-legal. Gloves are also a legal requirement here, which surprises a lot of visitors. Keep dipped headlights on at all times, even in daylight. In town, the speed limit is 50 km/h once you pass the sign marking the built-up area, dropping lower on some backroads — watch the posted signs around Ramatuelle and Gassin. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, so it's simplest to treat scooter riding and drinking as a straight either-or.
