Corsica rewards anyone willing to get off the coach and onto two wheels. Picture the road out of Calvi climbing to Notre-Dame de la Serra, the citadel and the whole bay laid out below you, or the switchback drive through the Calanches de Piana, where the cliffs turn red-gold in the late afternoon light. A **scooter rental in Corsica** puts you in charge of the pace, so you can pull over the moment a viewpoint or a quiet cove catches your eye — something no bus timetable will ever allow.
This island was practically built for it. Distances between towns are short, old quarters like Bonifacio and Calvi were never designed with cars in mind, and parking a scooter takes seconds where a car would circle for twenty minutes. The coastal roads around Porto-Vecchio and the Golfe de Porto are made up of short, winding stretches rather than long highway runs, and a scooter lets you enjoy every curve instead of just enduring it. If you want to **rent a scooter in Corsica**, you'll find it's the easiest way to link beaches, viewpoints and villages the bigger tour groups tend to skip.
For a 50cc scooter you'll need an AM licence, which most non-French visitors already hold if they carry a full car or motorcycle licence. For 125cc models, France requires an A1 motorcycle licence, or a category B car licence held for at least two years alongside a short mandatory training course. Rental companies on the island generally ask for a minimum age of 18, sometimes higher for bigger machines, and take a refundable deposit by card. If you're travelling from outside the EU, it's worth carrying an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence.
Prices swing a lot with the season. Expect around 5-15 EUR per day in low season, rising to 25-45 EUR per day in high season, with larger, premium models running 40-70 EUR per day.
High season runs June through August, peaking hard in late July and August when the whole of France is on holiday — book well ahead if you're travelling then, since Corsica fills up early. Low season stretches from November to March, when prices drop but some outlets reduce their hours or close. For the best balance of good weather, open roads and fair prices, aim for May, June or September.
France drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a scooter or motorcycle, and must be ECE-approved with reflective stickers. Somewhat unusually, CE-approved gloves are also a legal requirement for two-wheeler riders, so don't skip them. Speed limits in town are 50 km/h, dropping further on some stretches, while the open road limit outside built-up areas is generally 80 km/h. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightening to effectively zero for riders still in their first three years of holding a licence. Keep your headlight on at all times, even in daylight — it's the law here.
