Kemer sits where the Taurus Mountains drop straight into the Mediterranean, and that single fact shapes everything about getting around here. The coast road links pine-covered slopes, quiet coves and ancient ruins in a way that rewards anyone with their own wheels. Hop on a scooter and within twenty minutes you can be wandering the sunken columns of Phaselis or watching the strange flames of Chimaera flicker on a hillside above Çıralı. This is exactly the kind of place where renting a scooter in Kemer turns a string of separate day trips into one easy, open-air adventure.
What makes Kemer so well suited to two wheels is the shape of the region itself. Every major sight sits along one coastal highway, with narrow, twisting side roads climbing into the hills toward Tahtalı or Göynük Canyon — routes that are slow by taxi and exhausting on foot, but genuinely enjoyable on a 125cc-class scooter. Traffic on the coast road is light to moderate outside the July peak, the tarmac is in good shape, and the distances between towns are short enough that you can string together two or three stops in a single afternoon.
For scooters and mopeds you generally need an M-category licence, with 125cc machines falling under the A1 class — a plain car licence alone usually isn't enough. Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence, as this is normally required in Turkey. Most rental shops set the minimum age at 18, and you'll need to leave a deposit, either as a card hold or in cash; we recommend leaving a passport photocopy rather than the original document.
Prices swing a lot between seasons. In low season you're looking at roughly 180–250 TRY per day, while high season brings that up to around 500–900 TRY per day, with premium 125cc+ models reaching 700–1200 TRY per day.
If you're travelling in July or August, book ahead — this is when demand and prices both peak. From November to March many coastal shops scale down or close entirely, but the ones that stay open offer noticeably cheaper rates. Late spring and early autumn hit a sweet spot: warm enough to ride comfortably, without the scramble of high-season crowds.
Turkey drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any motorised two-wheeler, including 50cc scooters, and police do check. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in town and 90 km/h on rural roads, with lower limits applying to scooters and motorcycles than to cars. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, and roadside breath tests are routine, so it's simplest to skip the rakı until the scooter is back at the shop. Ride defensively in town, especially in high season, when lane discipline gets loose and cars pull out without warning.
