Ljubljana's old town is small enough to cross on foot in twenty minutes, but the country around it is not — it's built for two wheels. Beyond the castle hill and the willow-lined Ljubljanica, a short ride puts you at Lake Bled's island church, and a longer one carries you over the Vršič Pass into the Julian Alps. This is a city where the appeal isn't just getting around town; it's what waits an hour outside it.
The centre itself is largely closed to cars, with narrow lanes and scarce parking that make a scooter far more practical than a rental car ever will be. Once you're past the old town, Slovenia opens up into exactly the kind of terrain a bike rewards and a car wastes: switchback mountain roads, quiet valley routes, and coastal stretches where you'll want to stop every few kilometres for the view. If you're going to rent a motorcycle in Ljubljana, this is the country that makes it worth doing.
Licence requirements follow EU categories: A1 covers light motorcycles up to 125cc, A2 mid-power machines, and A unrestricted models — ask your rental company which category matches the bike you want, since minimum ages vary by class. Most agencies set their own minimum age for motorised rentals, commonly 18 and up. A deposit is standard, usually held on a credit card and scaled to the value of the bike, and you'll need to bring your passport or ID. An International Driving Permit isn't legally required for EU/EEA licence holders, but if you're travelling from outside the EU it's worth carrying one just in case.
Expect to pay 25-35 EUR per day in low season and 45-70 EUR per day in high season, with premium and larger-displacement models running 60-100+ EUR per day.
High season runs through July and August, when prices peak and the mountain passes are busiest. Low season stretches from November to March, when many lakeside and coastal rental outlets shut down entirely and prices drop accordingly. If you can manage it, May, June or September hit the sweet spot — mild weather, open passes, and noticeably fewer crowds than midsummer.
Slovenia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a moped, scooter or motorcycle, and headlights must stay on at all times, day or night. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on open roads, and up to 130 km/h on motorways. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, so treat any drinking before a ride as off the table entirely.
On our website you can rent the following types of motorcycles: cruiser, sport, touring, standard, classic, dual-purpose, dirt bikes, street, naked bikes or roadsters, choppers, custom, streetfighter, sport-touring, dual-sport, on-road, off-road, adventure motorcycles, supermoto, scrambler, motorcycle with sidecar, enduro, motocross mx, trail, motards, tricycles, bikes with automatic or manual gears, luxury motorbikes.

Most providers include basic third-party liability insurance in the rental price, with options to upgrade to fuller coverage that reduces or removes your deposit liability in case of damage or theft. Always confirm exactly what is and isn’t covered before you set off.
When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
Most of our motorcycle rental providers have years of experience and will equip you with a well-maintained bike, helmet and insurance for the ride ahead. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a motorcycle locally, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
