Belgrade rewards anyone willing to leave the sidewalk behind. Ride up to Kalemegdan Fortress at sunset and watch the Sava meet the Danube below the old ramparts, then cross the river the next morning to wander the cobbled lanes of Zemun and climb Gardoš Tower for another angle on the water. A motorcycle turns these into a single easy afternoon instead of two separate taxi rides.

The old town's core is compact but choked with traffic and short on parking, so two wheels get you through the jams around Kalemegdan and Zemun in minutes while cars queue. The real advantage shows once you leave the center: Avala and Kosmaj are half-day loops on winding roads just outside the city, and Fruška Gora and the Đerdap Gorge open up some of Serbia's best riding for anyone who books a full day or a weekend. If you want to rent a motorcycle in Belgrade, this is a city built for exactly that kind of trip.

Top 10 things to see in Belgrade by motorcycle

  1. Kalemegdan Fortress — the old fortress overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube, and the classic first stop, just minutes from the center.
  2. Ada Ciganlija — a river island with a lake loop road, perfect for an easy warm-up ride followed by a swim or coffee.
  3. Zemun and Gardoš Tower — a riverside old town of cobbled lanes, topped off by the Gardoš Tower viewpoint over the Danube.
  4. Avala Tower — a hillside tower south of the city with panoramic views, a favorite short loop for getting to know a rented bike.
  5. Kosmaj Monument and Mountain — winding forest roads climbing to the WWII monument, good for a half-day of curves outside the city.
  6. Fruška Gora National Park — a national park north of Belgrade with monastery-dotted forest roads, ideal for a weekend touring ride.
  7. Petrovaradin Fortress, Novi Sad — a classic day-trip destination along the river road, with fortress views over the Danube.
  8. Sremski Karlovci — a small wine town near Novi Sad, often paired with the Fruška Gora and Petrovaradin loop.
  9. Golubac Fortress and the Đerdap Gorge road — a scenic Danube gorge route east of the city, considered one of Serbia's best motorcycle roads (allow a full day).
  10. Zlatibor — a popular mountain touring destination southwest of Belgrade, reached via winding highland roads for those with more time.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Belgrade?

You'll need a motorcycle licence matching the bike's engine size and power — Serbia follows the standard European A1/A2/A tiers, so a car licence alone won't cover a full-size motorcycle. Most agencies expect riders to be at least 18, and some set the bar higher, around 21, or ask that the licence has been held for a minimum period. An International Driving Permit is recommended alongside your home licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually a card pre-authorisation, and have your passport copied or held for the rental period.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Belgrade?

Prices move with the season. In low season a standard scooter or motorcycle runs around 2,900–3,200 RSD per day, while high season pushes that to roughly 4,500–6,500 RSD per day. Larger-displacement or premium motorcycles run from about 8,000 RSD per day and up.

  • Cheapest months: November to March, outside the holiday weeks.
  • Dearest months: June to August, the peak tourist season.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Belgrade?

High season runs June through August, when demand and prices both peak — book ahead if you're arriving in summer. Low season, November to March, is quieter and cheaper, though some rental operations scale back over winter. May, June and September into early October hit the sweet spot: mild weather, open mountain roads, and prices well below the summer peak.

Local traffic rules in Belgrade

Serbia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds, scooters and motorcycles, and dipped headlights must stay on day and night, year-round. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 80 km/h on open roads, 100 km/h on expressways and 130 km/h on motorways, with lower caps for mopeds. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.02% for ordinary drivers and effectively zero for motorcycle and moped riders, so treat it as a strict no-drinking rule before you ride. Carry your licence, IDP, rental contract and the bike's registration and insurance documents at all times — police checks are routine.
