Belgrade rewards anyone willing to cover ground quickly, and a scooter is the easiest way to do it. One afternoon you're weaving along the walls of Kalemegdan Fortress watching the Sava meet the Danube, and twenty minutes later you're parked by the lakeside loop at Ada Ciganlija with your swimsuit already on. That kind of range, on your own schedule, is exactly what makes renting a scooter in Belgrade worth it.

The city's layout practically asks for two wheels. Its best districts — Kalemegdan, Vračar, Zemun, the riverside strips along the Sava — are spread out, hilly in places, and jammed with car traffic during the day. Walking between them eats hours; driving means circling for parking. A scooter slips through the congestion, climbs the hill to Zemun without effort, and turns a trip out to Avala into a relaxed afternoon rather than a logistics project. If you're comparing options, scooter hire in Belgrade is simply the most efficient way to see the city on your own terms.

Top 10 things to see in Belgrade by scooter

  1. Kalemegdan Fortress — the fortress-park where the Sava and Danube meet, a short ride from the center with some of the best river views in the city.
  2. Ada Ciganlija — locals call it the "Belgrade Sea"; the flat road around the lake is made for a scooter cruise with a swim stop.
  3. Zemun Quay — the riverside promenade in old Zemun, a scenic Danube ride lined with fish restaurants.
  4. Skadarlija — Belgrade's bohemian quarter, a cobblestone lane of taverns and street art just minutes from downtown.
  5. Church of Saint Sava — one of the largest Orthodox churches anywhere, an unmissable central landmark.
  6. Gardoš Tower — the Millennium Tower above Zemun, a rewarding short climb rewarded with panoramic Danube views.
  7. Avala Tower — a forested hill south of the city crowned by a TV tower with sweeping views, best reached on two wheels.
  8. Belgrade Waterfront / Sava Promenada — a flat riverside boardwalk with modern architecture, perfect for an easy evening ride.
  9. Nikola Tesla Museum — a compact, popular central museum, an easy scooter stop between sights.
  10. Košutnjak Park — a forested hillside west of the center with quiet, winding roads, a calm break from downtown traffic.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Belgrade?

For scooters up to 50cc, Serbia's own riders use an AM category, but in practice most rental agencies here simply accept a full car licence — it's their policy rather than a strict legal rule, so it's worth confirming when you book. Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence if you have one. Expect a deposit, usually taken as a card pre-authorisation, and to leave a copy of your passport with the agency. There's generally no strict minimum age for a scooter beyond having a valid licence, though some operators set their own floor.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Belgrade?

Prices swing noticeably with the season. In low season you're looking at roughly 550–650 RSD per day; in high season that climbs to around 900–1200 RSD per day, and a newer or higher-spec model can run 1200–1800 RSD per day.

  • Cheapest months: November to February, when tourist numbers drop and agencies price accordingly.
  • Priciest months: June to August, when demand peaks alongside festival season, including travellers passing through for EXIT.

When to book a rental scooter in Belgrade?

High season runs June to August, when both prices and demand are at their peak — book ahead if you're arriving then. Low season stretches from November to March, with the cheapest rates but colder, less scooter-friendly weather. If you want the best balance, May to June and September into early October give you good riding weather without the summer price bump.

Local traffic rules in Belgrade

Serbia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any scooter or motorcycle, and dipped headlights must stay on at all times, day or night. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 80 km/h on open roads outside them, with mopeds often capped lower. The blood-alcohol limit is just 0.02%, effectively a no-drinking rule before you ride, and it's stricter still for novice riders. Keep your licence, IDP, rental contract and the scooter's papers on you — police checks are routine.

If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
