Belgrade rewards anyone willing to leave the sidewalk behind. Ride up to Kalemegdan Fortress at sunset and watch the Sava meet the Danube below the old ramparts, then cross the river the next morning to wander the cobbled lanes of Zemun and climb Gardoš Tower for another angle on the water. A motorcycle turns these into a single easy afternoon instead of two separate taxi rides.
The old town's core is compact but choked with traffic and short on parking, so two wheels get you through the jams around Kalemegdan and Zemun in minutes while cars queue. The real advantage shows once you leave the center: Avala and Kosmaj are half-day loops on winding roads just outside the city, and Fruška Gora and the Đerdap Gorge open up some of Serbia's best riding for anyone who books a full day or a weekend. If you want to rent a motorcycle in Belgrade, this is a city built for exactly that kind of trip.
You'll need a motorcycle licence matching the bike's engine size and power — Serbia follows the standard European A1/A2/A tiers, so a car licence alone won't cover a full-size motorcycle. Most agencies expect riders to be at least 18, and some set the bar higher, around 21, or ask that the licence has been held for a minimum period. An International Driving Permit is recommended alongside your home licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually a card pre-authorisation, and have your passport copied or held for the rental period.
Prices move with the season. In low season a standard scooter or motorcycle runs around 2,900–3,200 RSD per day, while high season pushes that to roughly 4,500–6,500 RSD per day. Larger-displacement or premium motorcycles run from about 8,000 RSD per day and up.
High season runs June through August, when demand and prices both peak — book ahead if you're arriving in summer. Low season, November to March, is quieter and cheaper, though some rental operations scale back over winter. May, June and September into early October hit the sweet spot: mild weather, open mountain roads, and prices well below the summer peak.
Serbia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds, scooters and motorcycles, and dipped headlights must stay on day and night, year-round. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 80 km/h on open roads, 100 km/h on expressways and 130 km/h on motorways, with lower caps for mopeds. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.02% for ordinary drivers and effectively zero for motorcycle and moped riders, so treat it as a strict no-drinking rule before you ride. Carry your licence, IDP, rental contract and the bike's registration and insurance documents at all times — police checks are routine.
