Budva rewards anyone willing to leave the bus schedule behind. Pedal out from the walls of Budva Old Town (Stari Grad) and within minutes you are looking at Sveti Nikola Island from the Slovenska Plaža promenade, or dropping down to Mogren Beach for a swim between two short climbs. Further south, the road opens onto the famous view of Sveti Stefan, and if your legs are willing, the ride continues on to Petrovac, a quieter coastal town with its own beaches and a relaxed seafront. This is a coastline built for two wheels.

The Old Town itself is compact and mostly closed to cars, so a bike only really pays off once you point it along the coast. That is exactly where Budva's charm sits: Sveti Stefan, Miločer, Bečići, Rafailovići and Petrovac are strung out over a few flat, scenic kilometres, too far to stroll comfortably and too short and too jammed with summer traffic to bother with a car or taxi. A bike lets you cover that distance at your own pace, and if you want a change of scenery, the hills behind town climb toward Topolica for a panoramic view over the bay — a steeper option for riders after more of a workout.

Top 10 things to see in Budva by bike

  1. Budva Old Town (Stari Grad) — the walled old town with its Citadel and seaside promenade, the natural start and end point for any ride.
  2. Mogren Beach — the closest beach to the old town, reached along a short scenic stretch of coastline cliffs.
  3. Ričardova Glava Beach — a popular in-town beach right next to the Old Town, an easy stop for a quick swim.
  4. Sveti Nikola Island — ride the Slovenska Plaža promenade for the classic postcard view of the island offshore.
  5. Sveti Stefan viewpoint — the iconic islet-hotel, best seen from the coastal road above Miločer just south of town.
  6. Miločer Beach and Park — a former royal park and beach between Budva and Sveti Stefan, shaded and scenic to ride through.
  7. Kraljičina Plaža (Queen's Beach) — a secluded beach tucked inside Miločer park, worth the short detour off the main route.
  8. Petrovac na Moru — a charming coastal town about 15–17 km south, a rewarding longer ride with its own beaches and promenade.
  9. Rafailovići and Bečići — neighbouring beach villages just north and south of Budva, linked by an easy coastal path.
  10. Topolica viewpoint — a steeper climb into the hills behind Budva, rewarding riders with panoramic views over the town and bay.

What do you need to rent a bike in Budva?

Renting a bicycle in Montenegro requires no licence and no registration, so this is one of the simplest rentals you will ever make. Bring valid ID, expect most agencies to ask for a small deposit, and you are ready to ride. There is no minimum age set by law, though individual shops may apply their own rules for younger riders and larger or electric models.

How much does it cost to rent a bike in Budva?

Average rental prices run from around 3-5 EUR per day in low season to 7-12 EUR per day in high season, with premium or electric models reaching 10-20 EUR per day.

  • Prices are lowest from November to March, when many coastal shops reduce rates or close for the season.
  • Prices climb through spring and peak in July-August, the busiest and priciest months on the coast.
  • Booking a few days ahead in high season helps you get the model and price you want before shops sell out.

When to book a rental bike in Budva?

High season runs July-August, when the coast is liveliest but prices and demand both peak. Low season stretches from November to March, with the best value but a much quieter town and fewer open rental shops. For the easiest riding conditions and fair prices, aim for May-June or September into early October, when the weather is still warm but the roads are calmer.

Local traffic rules in Budva

Montenegro drives on the right, and while cyclists are not legally required to wear a helmet, it is a sensible habit on shared coastal roads. Speed limits sit at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 80 km/h outside settlements, figures that matter mainly for the cars and scooters you will be sharing the road with. The blood alcohol limit is just 0.03%, effectively ruling out any drinking before you ride, and mobile phone use without a hands-free setup is prohibited for all road users.
