Crimea rewards riders who don't mind a few hairpin turns. Point a motorcycle out of Yalta toward Ai-Petri and you'll climb through pine forest into bare rock, the whole South Coast opening up below you at every switchback. Come back down for a coffee near the Swallow's Nest perched on its cliff above Gaspra, and you've already seen more in an afternoon than most bus tours manage in two days. This is a peninsula built for two wheels — palaces, fortresses and beaches are close enough together that you can string half a dozen into one loop and still be back for sunset.
The coastal road linking Yalta, Alupka, Simeiz and Foros is narrow, twisting and jammed with cars and tour buses all summer, which is exactly the kind of road a bike handles and a car doesn't. You can filter past the queues, pull over wherever a viewpoint catches your eye, and take the mountain passes at your own pace. Distances between sights rarely run past 90 km, so instead of one long highway slog you get a string of short, scenic rides — ideal if you **rent a scooter in Crimea** or something with a bit more power for the passes.
You'll need a motorcycle-category licence — A1 covers lighter machines, A the bigger ones, since there's no separate moped class. Most rental points ask for a minimum age of 18, plus an International Driving Permit alongside your national licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually in cash or as a card hold; a legitimate operator will never ask to hold your passport as security.
Prices swing a lot with the season. In low season you're looking at around 950 UAH per day, rising to roughly 1500–2200 UAH per day at the height of summer, and larger touring or premium bikes can run 2500–4000+ UAH per day.
High season runs May to September, when demand and prices both peak — book ahead if you're planning a July or August trip. Low season, November to March, brings cheaper rates but far fewer bikes on offer, and winter riding conditions rule out most of the coast road anyway. Late May, June and September hit the sweet spot: warm, dry, and before or after the summer crowds.
Traffic drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, headlights must stay on at all times on a motorcycle, and outside built-up areas dipped headlights are required through the colder months. Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns and 90 km/h on the open road. Drink-driving limits sit close to zero — 0.2 promille, essentially a measurement tolerance rather than an allowance — so plan on riding sober.
