Moscow rewards riders. Skip the crowded metro and take a motorcycle up to Vorobyovy Gory, where the Moskva River curls beneath you and the glass towers of Moscow City rise on the far bank. Ride the embankments at golden hour, cut through to Gorky Park for a coffee, then loop out to Kolomenskoye before the light fades. This is a city that opens up completely differently from the saddle — distances collapse, and places that feel like a trek on foot are simply the next stop.
Moscow is enormous and its traffic is famously slow, especially on the Garden Ring and Third Ring Road at rush hour. A motorcycle slips past the queues and covers the huge gaps between districts in a fraction of the time a car or metro transfer would take. The roads themselves help: wide boulevards, long straight avenues and flat terrain make the city easy to navigate even if you've never ridden here before, while the river embankments give you a genuinely scenic way to string several sights together in one afternoon.
The licence you need depends on the bike. Machines up to 125 cc call for category A1; anything larger needs the full category A, since a car licence (category B) doesn't cover motorcycles here. The minimum age is 18 for either category, and most rental shops set their own floor around 18–21 regardless. Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence, since foreign documents not in Russian or Latin script generally need one. Expect to leave a deposit — either cash or a card hold — and to show your passport and licence when you pick up the bike.
Average prices run 3,500–5,500 RUB per day for a standard motorcycle in high season, dropping to around 2,300 RUB per day for basic and scooter-class bikes in the off-season. If you want something bigger, large-displacement and premium touring or sport bikes run 8,000–15,000+ RUB per day.
June to August is high season, driven by warm weather and the summer tourist wave, so book ahead if you're planning a trip then. November to March is low season, with quieter roads, lower prices, and some rental fleets running at reduced capacity due to snow and ice. If you're after the best mix of good weather and manageable prices, aim for the shoulder months just either side of summer.
Russia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any motorcycle or scooter, and your headlight must stay on at all times, day or night. Speed limits are 60 km/h in built-up areas (some through-roads in Moscow allow 80 km/h), 90 km/h outside town, and 110 km/h on signed motorways. The alcohol limit is effectively zero, with penalties that include licence suspension, so plan to ride sober. Lane splitting isn't recognised under Russian traffic rules, so stay in your lane even when traffic crawls.

When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
