Moscow rewards riders. Skip the crowded metro and take a motorcycle up to Vorobyovy Gory, where the Moskva River curls beneath you and the glass towers of Moscow City rise on the far bank. Ride the embankments at golden hour, cut through to Gorky Park for a coffee, then loop out to Kolomenskoye before the light fades. This is a city that opens up completely differently from the saddle — distances collapse, and places that feel like a trek on foot are simply the next stop.

Moscow is enormous and its traffic is famously slow, especially on the Garden Ring and Third Ring Road at rush hour. A motorcycle slips past the queues and covers the huge gaps between districts in a fraction of the time a car or metro transfer would take. The roads themselves help: wide boulevards, long straight avenues and flat terrain make the city easy to navigate even if you've never ridden here before, while the river embankments give you a genuinely scenic way to string several sights together in one afternoon.

Top 10 things to see in Moscow by motorcycle

  1. Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills) viewpoint — the classic overlook across the Moskva River, with the Moscow City skyline and Luzhniki Stadium laid out below.
  2. Red Square and Saint Basil's Cathedral — park nearby and walk into the historic heart of the city for the postcard shot.
  3. Moscow City (Moscow International Business Center) — a striking skyscraper cluster and a stretch of fast, open riding on the approach along the Third Ring Road.
  4. Ostankino Tower and Ostankino Park — one of the tallest structures in Europe, with ponds and parkland nearby for a break off the bike.
  5. Kolomenskoye Park — a UNESCO-listed former royal estate on the river, with wide paved paths made for an easy, relaxed ride.
  6. Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve — a grand palace and landscaped park in the south of the city, popular with local riders on weekends.
  7. Moscow River Embankments — the Luzhnetskaya–Kremlevskaya route strings together several landmarks along the water in a single scenic ride.
  8. VDNKh — a vast Soviet-era exhibition park with fountains and pavilions, known among bikers for its wide roads and evening meet-ups.
  9. Sparrow Hills to Moscow State University loop — pair the viewpoint with the iconic Stalinist-era MGU building for a short, memorable ride.
  10. Gorky Park and Muzeon Art Park — the go-to spot for locals on two wheels for evening cruises and casual stops by the river.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Moscow?

The licence you need depends on the bike. Machines up to 125 cc call for category A1; anything larger needs the full category A, since a car licence (category B) doesn't cover motorcycles here. The minimum age is 18 for either category, and most rental shops set their own floor around 18–21 regardless. Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence, since foreign documents not in Russian or Latin script generally need one. Expect to leave a deposit — either cash or a card hold — and to show your passport and licence when you pick up the bike.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Moscow?

Average prices run 3,500–5,500 RUB per day for a standard motorcycle in high season, dropping to around 2,300 RUB per day for basic and scooter-class bikes in the off-season. If you want something bigger, large-displacement and premium touring or sport bikes run 8,000–15,000+ RUB per day.

  • Prices climb through June, July and August, when demand peaks with the White Nights tourist season.
  • They ease off from November through March, when cold weather thins out both riders and rental fleets.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Moscow?

June to August is high season, driven by warm weather and the summer tourist wave, so book ahead if you're planning a trip then. November to March is low season, with quieter roads, lower prices, and some rental fleets running at reduced capacity due to snow and ice. If you're after the best mix of good weather and manageable prices, aim for the shoulder months just either side of summer.

Local traffic rules in Moscow

Russia drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any motorcycle or scooter, and your headlight must stay on at all times, day or night. Speed limits are 60 km/h in built-up areas (some through-roads in Moscow allow 80 km/h), 90 km/h outside town, and 110 km/h on signed motorways. The alcohol limit is effectively zero, with penalties that include licence suspension, so plan to ride sober. Lane splitting isn't recognised under Russian traffic rules, so stay in your lane even when traffic crawls.

Which insurance is provided?

Most providers include basic third-party liability insurance in the rental price, with options to upgrade to fuller coverage that reduces or removes your deposit liability in case of damage or theft. Always confirm exactly what is and isn’t covered before you set off.

Extra services available

When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
