Izmir doesn't reveal itself from a bus window. The city wraps around a long bay, climbs steep hills on its eastern edge, and hides its best corners down alleys a taxi driver won't bother with. On a scooter you can trace the Kordon waterfront in Alsancak with the sea breeze in your face, then twenty minutes later be grinding up to Kadifekale for a view over the whole gulf — a route that would eat half your afternoon on foot or by tram. If you want to rent a scooter in Izmir, our website puts that kind of freedom within easy reach.
Izmir is built at scooter scale. Its landmarks sit far enough apart — the bazaar in Konak, the elevator in Karataş, the promenade across the bay in Bostanlı — that walking wears you out and the tram only covers a fraction of it, while Konak's midday traffic can trap a taxi for twenty minutes a scooter clears in five. Parking is never a problem either: you leave the bike at the curb and walk straight into the market. And once the city itself is covered, the same scooter carries you out to Çeşme's beaches or Alaçatı's cobblestone lanes for the day, trips a bus timetable would make far more complicated.
For anything above a basic moped you'll need a licence covering the M category, and 125cc machines require the A1 class — a plain car licence generally won't cover it, even if some resort shops don't check too closely. Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence, and expect a minimum age of 18. Shops usually ask for a deposit, either a card hold or cash; if one asks to hold your passport instead, a photocopy plus the deposit is the safer arrangement.
Prices swing a lot across the year. In low season you can find scooters from around 170–200 TRY per day, while high season runs 400–600 TRY per day, and newer 125cc-plus models can reach 600–900 TRY per day at the July–August peak.
High season runs June to August, spilling into early September along the Aegean coast, and this is when both prices and demand peak — book ahead if you're travelling then. Low season, November to March, is quieter and cheaper, though many coastal shops scale back. For the best balance of mild weather and easy availability, aim for May, June, September or October.
Turkey drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any motorised two-wheeler, including 50cc scooters, and this is actively enforced. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05% for private drivers, and roadside checks are routine, so it's not worth risking. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on rural roads, with lower limits applying to scooters and motorcycles than to cars. Summer heat on the coast regularly hits 35–40°C, so plan to ride in the early morning or evening rather than through the middle of the day.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online scooter reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to your hotel, delivery to your address, delivery to the arrival point of your choice.
