Nuremberg's old town rewards curiosity, and there is no better way to chase it than behind the wheel of a quad. Picture yourself buzzing up toward the Nürnberger Burg, parking below its walls, and looking out over a sea of red rooftops before dropping back down to the Pegnitz river for a coffee by the Henkersteg. When you rent a quad bike in Nuremberg, the city stops being a checklist of sights and becomes a place you actually move through, at your own pace, on your own schedule.
Nuremberg is unusually forgiving for this kind of ride. The historic core is compact and largely closed to cars, so a quad lets you hop between landmarks without hunting for parking, while flat terrain and well-paved roads make the outskirts easy even if you have never ridden one before. From the old town it is a short, comfortable run out to green spaces like Dutzendteich and Wöhrder See, or further afield to Schloss Faber-Castell — the kind of half-day excursion that would be a hassle on foot and overkill in a rental car.
Most rental quads in Nuremberg fall into the light or standard category, which German rules allow you to ride on an ordinary car licence (class B) — no separate motorcycle test needed. Heavier or more powerful machines can require a motorcycle licence instead, so check the category with the operator before booking. Rental companies generally set their own minimum age, typically 18. A deposit is standard, usually held on a credit card in the main driver's name, and non-EU visitors should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence.
Average rental price is around 15 EUR per day in low season, rising to 25-30 EUR during high season, with premium models running 35-45 EUR per day.
High season runs from May to September, peaking in July and August, and is when both prices and demand are at their highest — book a few weeks ahead if you want your pick of models. Low season stretches from November to March, with quieter roads and lower rates, though some operators trim their fleets over winter. If you would rather skip the crowds without sacrificing mild weather, aim for late spring or early autumn.
Germany drives on the right. Whether a helmet is required on your quad depends on the machine — models built with seat belts and a protective body are generally exempt, while open quads are not, so ask your rental company directly. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 100 km/h on roads outside them; right-before-left applies at unmarked junctions, so stay alert in residential streets. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to zero if you are under 21 or still in your first two years of holding a licence — easiest just to leave the beer for after you have parked. With that settled, use the search form at the top of the page whenever you are ready to rent a quad bike in Nuremberg. Have a nice trip!
