Kyrenia rewards anyone willing to leave the harbour on two wheels. Wind up the hairpins toward St. Hilarion Castle and the Mediterranean drops away below you with every switchback, or take the short climb to Bellapais Abbey for a coffee under its ruined arches with the coastline spread out behind. This is a place built for a bike, not a windshield — and if you want to rent a motorcycle in Kyrenia, our website puts you on the road in minutes.
The old town around Girne Limanı is a maze of narrow lanes and tight corners where a car simply doesn't fit, but a motorcycle slips through and parks wherever you like. Beyond the harbour, the terrain does the rest of the selling: the Kyrenia mountain range throws up short, steep, winding roads that are far more fun on a bike than behind a wheel, and the whole northern coast — from Six Mile Beach to the Karpaz Peninsula — sits close enough for easy day trips without ever needing a car.
You'll need a motorcycle licence matching the engine size of the bike you choose — rental shops check the category before handing over the keys. The general legal minimum age for riding is 18, though individual operators often set their own, higher threshold for bigger machines. A deposit is standard practice, usually held on a card, and amounts vary by vehicle and operator. If a shop asks to hold your passport instead, you're entitled to offer a card deposit in its place. Bringing an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence is recommended.
Expect to pay around 20–25 EUR per day in low season, rising to 30–40 EUR in high season, with premium models running 45–60 EUR per day.
High season runs through July and August, when demand is strongest and prices sit at their yearly peak — book ahead if you're travelling then. Low season, from December to February, brings the lowest prices and no shortage of availability, so you can often decide closer to your travel dates. If you'd rather skip both the summer heat and the winter rain, April, May, September and October offer warm, dry riding weather at friendlier prices than August.
Cyprus drives on the left, so keep that in mind on roundabouts — they run clockwise, and traffic already on the roundabout has priority. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any powered two-wheeler, and riding without one brings an on-the-spot fine. Speed limits are 50 km/h in town, 80 km/h on open roads and 100 km/h on motorways, all enforced by cameras. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, and hand-held phone use while riding is prohibited. Mountain roads like the climb to Buffavento can be narrow and gravelly, so take the hairpins slowly and stick to surfaced routes.
