Kyrenia's coastline is pretty, but the real reason to come here is what sits above it. Wind up the mountain road behind the harbour and you'll reach St. Hilarion Castle, a Crusader ruin scattered across the ridge with the whole north coast laid out below. From there the range keeps going, and so can you — on a quad, distance stops being the obstacle it is on foot.
Kyrenia splits neatly into two zones: the flat coastal strip and the steep, broken mountain roads behind it. Several of the best targets — St. Hilarion, Buffavento, the track to Antiphonitis Monastery — finish on gravel or unpaved surfaces that a rental car struggles with and a scooter simply can't grip. A quad handles the climb, the loose surface and the switchbacks without drama, so the ride there becomes as memorable as the destination. If you want to rent a quad bike in Kyrenia, this is exactly the terrain it was built for.
A full car driving licence (category B) is normally enough for a road-legal registered quad, so most visitors are already covered. Helmets apply just as they would on a motorcycle, and if your licence isn't from the EU or UK, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside it. Expect to leave a deposit, usually a card hold rather than cash — if a shop asks to hold your passport instead, you're entitled to offer a card deposit instead.
Average rental prices run from EUR 15–20 per day in low season up to EUR 25–35 per day in high season, with larger or newer two-seat quads reaching EUR 40–55 per day.
High season runs June through August, when prices peak and the best quads get booked out early — reserve ahead if you're travelling in July or August. Low season, November through March, is cheapest and quietest, though mountain routes can turn wet or foggy. April, May, September and October hit the sweet spot: warm, dry, and comfortable for a full day on the ridge roads.
Cyprus drives on the left, so overtake on the right and give way to traffic already on a roundabout. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on quad bikes, and it's an on-the-spot fine if you skip one. Speed limits top out at 80 km/h on open roads and drop to 50 km/h in town, with cameras in use, so treat the posted numbers as real limits, not suggestions. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, and mountain tracks especially call for a clear head given the gravel and drop-offs. If you're ready to explore the coast and the castles above it, just use the search form at the top of the page to rent a quad bike in Kyrenia. Have a nice trip!
