Pedal out of Netsel Marina in the early morning, while the yachts are still quiet and the cafes are just opening, and Marmaris feels like a different town — one built for two wheels rather than tour buses. From the harbor you can climb up to the old town streets and Marmaris Castle for a look over the bay, then follow the coast road toward Icmeler, stopping wherever a cove or a fish restaurant catches your eye. It's the kind of place where a bike turns a single afternoon into three or four small adventures.
The center itself is small and mostly flat, easy to cross in minutes around the marina and bazaar. But the rides worth taking — Icmeler, Turunc, the ruins at Amos — sit a few hilly kilometers out of town, too far to walk comfortably and too scenic to rush past in a taxi. A bicycle lets you cover that ground at your own pace, skip the summer traffic jams on the main coastal road, and pull over the moment you spot a beach or a viewpoint worth stopping for.
Good news for cyclists: no licence is required to rent a bicycle here, and there's no minimum age beyond what individual shops set for their own comfort — usually enough to handle the hills toward Turunc. A refundable deposit is common, either a card hold or cash, and a passport copy is usually sufficient; you shouldn't need to hand over the original document. Since no licence is involved, an International Driving Permit doesn't come into it at all for a bicycle rental.
Expect around 350–450 TRY per day for a basic city or hybrid bike in low season, rising to roughly 600–900 TRY per day in high season. E-bikes and higher-end mountain or road bikes can run 1000–1500 TRY per day or more at the peak.
High season runs June through August, when the coast is busiest and prices sit at their highest. Low season stretches from November to March, with the best value but a colder, quieter town and reduced opening hours at some rental points. If you want warm weather without the July crush, May, June, September and October hit a comfortable middle ground — and it's worth booking a few days ahead once summer gets close, since the best bikes go first.
Turkey drives on the right, so keep that in mind on the coastal road and roundabouts around the marina. Helmets aren't a strict legal requirement for adult cyclists, but wearing one is a sensible habit given the traffic in town. The same road rules that apply to cars are worth respecting on a bike: general limits run up to 50 km/h in built-up areas, and traffic in Marmaris and Icmeler gets dense and unpredictable in summer, with vehicles pulling out without much warning. Riding while affected by alcohol is best avoided altogether — ride defensively, use the dedicated Marmaris–Icmeler cycle path where you can, and save the busiest midday heat for a swim instead of a climb.
