Alanya's old town wraps around a harbor beneath a Seljuk fortress, and the best way to feel the shape of the place is from a saddle, not a car window. Pedal the promenade past Cleopatra Beach, coast along the marina under the castle walls, and you'll cover in an hour what would take half a day on foot. A bicycle also gets you past the crowds along Atatürk Boulevard and out toward the tea gardens of the Dim River, where most tour buses never bother to stop.
The seafront here is flat and paved almost the whole way, which makes cycling an easy, parking-free way to string together the beaches and the harbor. The one climb worth the effort is the winding road up to the castle, and once you're past that, the terrain opens into gentler inland roads toward the caves and canyons outside town. Traffic on the main boulevard gets heavy and impatient in summer, so a bike also sidesteps the taxi queues and the hunt for parking that come with any other option.
Renting a regular bicycle in Alanya doesn't require a licence at all — anyone can hire one on the spot. There's usually no strict minimum age for standard city bikes, though rental points may ask for a small deposit, either as a card hold or in cash, before handing over the bike. No international driving permit is needed, since a bicycle isn't a motorised vehicle. If you're considering an e-bike instead, it's worth asking the rental point directly, as deposit terms can be slightly higher for the electric models.
A standard bicycle rental in Alanya runs roughly 350–450 TRY per day in low season, rising to around 600–900 TRY per day in high season. E-bikes and higher-spec models cost more, typically 800–1500 TRY per day.
High season runs from June through August, sometimes stretching into early September, and this is when prices sit at their peak and bikes are in shortest supply — booking a few days ahead is worth it. Low season runs November to March, when many coastal rental points slow down or close and prices drop to their lowest point of the year. If you want warm weather without the crowds or the highest prices, May, June, September and October hit that balance well.
Turkey drives on the right, and while a regular bicycle doesn't legally require a helmet the way a scooter does, wearing one is still a sensible habit on the busier seafront roads. General speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, which is the zone you'll mostly be riding in, and traffic in resort towns like Alanya can be dense and unpredictable in summer, so ride defensively and don't assume cars will indicate before pulling out. If you're mixing in any motorised rentals during your trip, remember the blood-alcohol limit is 0.05% for private drivers, with routine roadside checks along the coast.
