Scooter Rental in Mumbai

Document Requirements

Required documents vary between rental companies, but common rules are as follows:

  1. You can rent a small 50cc scooter with an ordinary B (car) licence or AM license;
  2. You will need a car license or A1 (scooter) or A2 (small moto) driving licence for scooters with an engine capacity of 125cc;
  3. A full moto licence (A class) is required for all scooters with an engine capacity more than 125cc.
    Some rental companies ask for an International Drivers Permit (IDP) and security deposit (cash or card); always check the terms of specific providers on the booking page before making a reservation.

Vehicle Availability and Urban Suitability

Mumbai’s stop-and-go traffic favours 110cc–125cc automatic scooters — Honda Activa, Suzuki Access, TVS Jupiter — for their low-speed torque and fuel efficiency. Vespa models are available but less common due to maintenance complexity in humid, salty air. Three-wheelers are offered for riders prioritising stability on flyovers like Bandra–Worli Sea Link access ramps. Electric scooters (Ola, Ather) appear on platforms but have limited range in AC-off monsoon conditions.

Critical Riding Notes for the City

– Helmet use is mandatory — traffic police enforce strictly near Nariman Point, Andheri, and airport approaches.
– Two-wheelers banned from certain zones: Marine Drive (7 PM–7 AM), Carter Road (peak hours), and airport expressway car-only lanes.
– Monsoon caution: Avoid low-lying areas (Sion, Kurla) during heavy rain — waterlogging exceeds 1m in minutes.

Extra Services

Integral helmet (additional), GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, gloves, jacket, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to hotel, CST, or Mumbai Airport.
