Albufeira rewards anyone willing to leave the beach towel behind. Hop on a quad and the coast opens up: the red cliffs of Praia da Falésia stretch out east of town along a road built for exactly this kind of ride, while inland tracks lead up to the Moorish ruins of Silves and the hilltop remains of Paderne Castle. One day, one machine, and you cover ground that would otherwise take a car, a bus and a lot of walking to string together.
This stretch of the Algarve was practically made for a quad bike rental in Albufeira. The coast road links a string of beaches and viewpoints too far apart to walk between, while a network of rural dirt tracks heads inland to castles and hills a car simply can't reach. A quad handles both halves of that equation — smooth tarmac along the sea, loose gravel further back from it — so you can chain together a full day of stops instead of picking just one.
Requirements depend on how the quad is registered. A road-legal quad needs a driving licence, though the exact category depends on the machine's homologation — worth confirming directly with the operator when you book. Many guided off-road quad tours on private land, by contrast, ask for no licence at all. Rental firms almost always set their own minimum age, generally higher than the legal minimum, and you should expect to leave a card deposit as security for the vehicle. Non-EU visitors are usually asked for an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence.
Prices swing hard with the calendar here. In low season you're looking at roughly 15–25 EUR per day, while high season pushes that up to around 35–55 EUR per day. Premium models run higher still, around 50–80 EUR per day.
If you're chasing the lowest prices, aim for November through February. But June through September — especially July and August — is when the Algarve fills up fastest, and quads can sell out well ahead of your dates, so book early if you're travelling then. April to June and September to October split the difference nicely: warm, dry, and considerably calmer than peak summer, both on the roads and at the till.
Portugal drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a road-registered quad, no exceptions. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in town, 90 km/h on open roads and 120 km/h on motorways, though a quad is better suited to the slower coastal and rural routes anyway. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to 0.2 g/l for anyone who has held a licence less than three years — roadside checks are routine, so it's not worth the risk.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
Most of our local quad bike rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-maintained quad, helmet, guide and friendly service. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a quad bike, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
