Bicycle Hire Bandung

Bandung sits 768 metres above sea level, cradled by volcanic peaks and wrapped in mist for much of the year. Known as Parisje van Java for its colonial architecture and cooler climate, the city unfolds across rolling hills, tree-lined boulevards, and hidden valleys where tea plantations begin just beyond the urban edge. Unlike Jakarta’s intensity, Bandung moves at a more reflective pace — and a bicycle is the ideal match. Glide past the art deco splendour of Gedung Sate, circle the calm waters of Situ Patenggang, or pedal through the quiet lanes of Dago where university students sip coffee under jacaranda trees. Here, two wheels let you feel the city’s rhythm — unhurried, creative, and deeply connected to its highland setting.

Required documents may vary depending on the rental company, but common rules are as follows: 1) you don't need any drivers license to rent a bicycle; 2) some deposit may be required for a bike which will be returned at the end. Always check the terms of an exact rental company before booking.

On our website you can rent the following types of bicycles: classic bikes, city commuters, hybrid, mountain bikes (MTB), cruisers, comfort models, folding bikes, tricycles, and electric bicycles. Given Bandung’s topography — gentle slopes in the city centre, steeper climbs toward Lembang and Ciwidey — hybrid bikes and MTBs with front suspension are most practical. Electric bicycles are particularly useful for the 4-kilometre ascent from Braga Street to the Dago highlands or the route to the Maribaya waterfall area.

Available manufacturers include Trek, Giant, Specialized, Cannondale, Cube, Scott, Merida, Polygon, and United — with local Indonesian brands well-represented due to regional service networks.

When you make a reservation of a bicycle you also can order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, GPS navigation, clip pedals, side cases, rear rack, basket, light, gloves, speedometer, individual guide or tour, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to hotel, delivery to the railway station, or delivery to Husein Sastranegara Airport.

Ten places best explored by bicycle:

  1. Gedung Sate and Asia-Africa Conference Museum – Colonial heart, wide sidewalks, low traffic early
  2. Braga Street and historic banking district – Art deco facades, pedestrian-friendly mornings
  3. Dago Pakar loop – Pine forests, art studios, cool elevation
  4. Lembang Floating Market periphery – Rural charm, light gravel access
  5. Ciwidey tea plantations (lower zones) – Rolling green hills, photo opportunities
  6. Situ Patenggang and Kawah Putih approach (first 3 km) – Volcanic lake, misty mornings
  7. ITB and UNPAD campus zones – Academic energy, shaded paths
  8. Cihampelas Walk outer lanes – Youth culture, street art, evening buzz
  9. Maribaya waterfall access road – Jungle descent, fresh air
  10. Ranca Upas deer park buffer zone – Wildlife sightings, forest edge

Whether you’re visiting for the architecture, the food, or the mountain air, a bicycle helps you experience Bandung not as a checklist, but as a living city. Browse verified rental options on our platform, select the model that fits your route, and start your journey with confidence.
