Limassol rewards you for slowing down to two wheels. Glide along the Molos Promenade at sunset with the marina's yachts catching the last light, or pedal into the Old Town where Limassol Castle sits a few minutes from the waterfront cafés. None of it needs a car, and a bicycle gets you closer to the sea air than any bus window ever will.
What makes this city so good for cycling is its shape: a long, flat coastline stitched together by a wide, mostly traffic-free promenade. You can cover the marina, the castle and the beach strip in an afternoon without touching a main road, and if you pick up an e-bike or a proper road bike, the same spine of coast road stretches out to the cliff-top ruins at Kourion and the crusader walls of Kolossi — a full day out on two wheels rather than in a rental car.
Nothing official — no licence is required to hire a bicycle, at any age. There's no IDP to worry about either. Most rental shops will still ask for a small deposit, held on a card, and some ask to hold an ID; you're entitled to offer a card deposit instead if you'd rather keep your passport with you.
A basic city or beach bike runs from EUR 3–6 a day in low season up to EUR 8–15 a day in high season. E-bikes and higher-spec road or mountain bikes, useful for the ride out to Kourion, cost EUR 15–25 a day.
High season runs June through August, when Cyprus gets busiest and prices for a bicycle rental in Limassol sit at their highest — book a few days ahead if you're arriving in August especially. Low season, November through March, brings the cheapest rates and the most choice, though it's also the wettest stretch of the year. For the best riding weather without the summer heat or the winter rain, aim for April, May, September or October.
Cyprus drives on the left, so keep to the left-hand side of the promenade and cycle paths and give way to traffic coming from your right at roundabouts. Helmets aren't legally required for cyclists, but we'd recommend wearing one regardless, especially if you're riding out toward Kourion on open roads. Built-up areas carry a 50 km/h speed limit for vehicle traffic, so stay alert around junctions even on a bike, and remember the blood-alcohol limit for drivers is a strict 0.05% if you're mixing an evening at a beach bar with the ride home.
