Picture starting your morning with a quiet ride along the harbour, coffee still on your breath, before the day-trippers fill the promenade. In Ayia Napa, that morning is easy to have — the old fishing boats bob past the marina, and within minutes you can be pedalling out toward Nissi Beach or looping back to the Ayia Napa Monastery in the main square. Renting a bicycle here isn't just transport, it's the best way to string these places together in a single, unhurried loop.

What makes Ayia Napa such a natural fit for cycling is its scale. Almost everything worth seeing sits inside a 3–5 km radius, and the coastal path running from the harbour out toward Cape Greco is flat to gently rolling, with barely any traffic to dodge. A car feels like overkill for distances this short, and it can't follow the cliff trails and sea-cave paths around the cape anyway — a bike gets you into corners of the coastline that vehicles simply can't reach.

Top 10 things to see in Ayia Napa by bike

  1. Cape Greco National Forest Park — clifftop park with sea-cave viewpoints and coastal singletrack, the classic Ayia Napa ride.
  2. Nissi Beach — the town's signature beach, linked by a short causeway to an islet, an easy flat ride from the centre.
  3. Konnos Bay — a sheltered cove just past Cape Greco, reached via a scenic coastal climb.
  4. Ayia Napa Monastery — the 16th-century monastery in the main square, a natural start or finish for any loop.
  5. Makronissos Beach — a sandy beach with ancient rock-cut tombs nearby, a short pedal west of the harbour.
  6. Ayia Napa Harbour — the working fishing harbour and promenade, perfect for an easy warm-up ride and photos.
  7. Love Bridge (Sea Caves, Cape Greco) — a natural rock arch over turquoise water, a popular short detour off the Cape Greco path.
  8. Cape Greco Lighthouse — the panoramic viewpoint at the cape's tip, a fitting turnaround point.
  9. Fig Tree Bay, Protaras — a postcard beach in neighbouring Protaras, reached via a longer ride along the coast road.
  10. Ayia Thekla Chapel — a small seaside chapel on a rocky outcrop between Ayia Napa and Protaras, a quiet coastal stop.

What do you need to rent a bike in Ayia Napa?

Good news: no licence is required to hire a bicycle in Cyprus, whatever your age. There's no IDP to worry about and, unlike scooters or quads, you generally won't be asked for a deposit either — though some shops may still ask you to leave a small card hold for a higher-end bike. Just bring yourself and a sense of adventure.

How much does it cost to rent a bike in Ayia Napa?

A standard city or beach cruiser runs from EUR 3–6 per day in low season up to EUR 8–15 per day in high season. If you want an e-bike or mountain bike for tackling the Cape Greco trails, expect EUR 15–25 per day.

  • Prices climb through the summer, peaking in July and August.
  • They drop back down from November through March, the cheapest window to rent.
  • Spring and autumn typically fall somewhere in between.

When to book a rental bike in Ayia Napa?

June to August is high season — the busiest and most expensive stretch, with inland temperatures often topping 35°C, so ride early morning or late afternoon and carry plenty of water. Book ahead if you're coming in August, as bikes in Ayia Napa and Protaras do sell out. November through March is low season, with the cheapest rates and the widest choice of bikes, though it's also the wettest stretch of the year. For the sweet spot, aim for April, May, September or October — warm, dry, and comfortable for riding without the midsummer crowds.

Local traffic rules in Ayia Napa

Cyprus drives on the left, so keep to the left-hand side of the road and give way to traffic already on a roundabout. Helmets aren't legally required for cyclists, but it's worth wearing one regardless, especially on the coastal descents near Cape Greco. Speed limits in built-up areas top out at 50 km/h, so drivers sharing the road with you are moving slowly by comparison. And if you're mixing a bike day with a scooter or car rental later in your trip, remember Cyprus sets the drink-drive limit at 0.05% blood alcohol.
