Buenos Aires rewards anyone willing to cover ground slowly. Pedal along the riverside promenade at Puerto Madero at golden hour, drift through the rose garden in the Bosques de Palermo, or follow the coastal dirt trails of the Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur as the sun drops behind the Río de la Plata — a bike gets you to all three in one afternoon, something a taxi never quite manages. If you want to rent a bicycle in Buenos Aires, our website puts you in the saddle in minutes and lets you set your own pace through the city's barrios.
Few South American capitals suit two wheels as naturally as this one. Buenos Aires is flat, laid out on a generous grid, and threaded with an expanding network of protected ciclovías, so you're rarely fighting traffic for space. The bike lane along Avenida Figueroa Alcorta links Palermo to the northern museums and the Facultad de Derecho, and from there the riverside parks and historic barrios — Recoleta, San Telmo, La Boca — string together into one continuous, unhurried ride.
Getting rolling is refreshingly simple. No licence, registration or minimum age applies to bicycles anywhere in Argentina — rental shops set their own age rules and usually just ask for an ID document. A small deposit, often held on a credit card, is standard, and no International Driving Permit is needed for a bicycle. It's the most paperwork-light way to explore the city.
During low season, daily rates run roughly ARS 6,000–9,000. In high season, expect around ARS 12,000–18,000 per day, and e-bikes or higher-end road and hybrid models typically land around ARS 20,000–30,000 per day.
High season runs December through February, the southern-hemisphere summer, when the parks and waterfront are busiest and prices sit at their highest. If you'd rather ride in a quieter city and pay less, aim for June to August — the low season, apart from a brief lift around July's winter school holidays. Spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) offer the most comfortable riding weather around the city, so booking a little ahead for those months is worth it.
Argentina drives on the right. National traffic law prescribes a helmet for cyclists, though enforcement is uneven — wearing one anyway is the sensible call in city traffic. Urban streets carry a default limit around 40 km/h and avenues around 60 km/h, but posted signage often overrides this, so watch for it. Argentina's alcohol limits are strict, and several provinces apply zero tolerance, so the safest rule riding here is simple: don't drink before you ride.
