Faro doesn't announce itself the way Lisbon or Porto do, and that's exactly its charm. Wander through the walled lanes of Cidade Velha at sunrise, before the day-trippers spill off the ferries, and you'll have the cathedral square and the Arco da Vila almost to yourself. Ten minutes later you can be crossing the bridge to Praia de Faro, salt air replacing old stone, with a coffee stop waiting on the other side. This is a city built for two wheels, and if you want to rent a scooter in Faro, our website makes it easy to start exploring the same day you land.
The old town is largely pedestrianised and parking is a genuine headache for anyone in a car, which makes a scooter the obvious choice here. Almost everything worth seeing — the lagoon boardwalks of Ria Formosa, the fishing port at Olhão, the hillside market in Loulé — sits within a 20 km radius on flat, easy coastal roads that gently roll inland. A scooter rental in Faro lets you cover that whole arc in a day, skip the summer traffic snarls, and reach inland towns that buses simply don't bother with.
For scooters up to 50cc you'll need category AM, which a full car licence (category B) also covers — note that the local rule letting Portuguese B-licence holders ride 125cc doesn't extend to visiting drivers, so a 125cc machine requires an A1 motorcycle entitlement. Bring your driving licence and, if you're from outside the EU/EEA, an International Driving Permit is generally expected by rental operators. A deposit is almost always held on a credit card, with the amount varying by vehicle and company, and each operator sets its own minimum age on top of the legal one.
A basic 50cc scooter runs from around 5 EUR a day in low season up to roughly 15–25 EUR a day in peak summer, while 125cc models or named brands like Vespa typically cost 20–35 EUR a day, more still in August.
High season runs June to September, peaking in July and August, when the Algarve's scooters get booked out early and prices climb fastest — book a couple of weeks ahead if you're travelling then. Low season, November through March, is far cheaper and quieter, though Faro itself stays mild enough to ride comfortably almost year-round. April to June and September to October hit the sweet spot: warm, dry, and without the peak-season rush.
Portugal drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any scooter or moped, and headlights must stay on, day and night. Speed limits are 50 km/h in town and 90 km/h on the open road, though mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to 0.2 g/l for newer licence holders, and roadside checks are common, so it's best to keep riding and drinking well apart. With those basics covered, just use the search form at the top of the page whenever you're ready to book. Have a nice trip!

If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online scooter reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to your hotel, delivery to your address, delivery to the arrival point of your choice.
