Picture leaving the city behind and dropping straight into eucalypt bushland, river crossings and sandstone fire trails within an hour of your hotel. That is what a quad bike unlocks around Sydney. You can spend the morning tearing through the trails at Glenworth Valley, then head further along the Hawkesbury River near Wisemans Ferry, where the tracks wind along the water and cross it on old-fashioned ferries. There is no faster way to feel like you have escaped the tourist trail.
Sydney itself is not built for quad bikes — they are not registered for use on New South Wales public roads, so you will not be weaving one through the CBD. What surrounds the city, though, is made for them: dense forest, unsealed fire trails, river valleys and coastal escarpments that a rental car or a road motorcycle simply cannot reach. Renting a quad here means booking a guided or semi-guided day out in the bush, not a city commute, and that is exactly the appeal — real off-road terrain, close enough for a day trip.
The good news: on private land or a guided tour, which is how quad bikes are almost always rented here, you do not need a motorcycle licence. Operators generally ask that you be at least 18, and a credit-card deposit or bond is standard, held in your own name. An International Driving Permit is not required.
Expect around AUD 130-160 per day for a standard single quad during the low season, rising to roughly AUD 200-280 per day in high season. Larger-cc machines or guided premium packages can run AUD 300-400 and up.
December to February is high season around Sydney — summer, plus the Christmas and January school holidays, so book ahead and expect top-of-range prices. June to August is low season: cooler, quieter and the cheapest time to ride. For the best balance of mild weather and lower prices, aim for March to May or September to November.
Australia drives on the left, so give-way rules and roundabouts follow left-hand-drive conventions. Helmets are compulsory by law for every rider, no exceptions. Default speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 40 km/h in signed school zones, rising to 100-110 km/h on highways outside the city, and speed cameras are widely used. The blood alcohol limit is 0.05 for full licence holders, but learner and provisional riders must stay at zero — random breath testing is common, so plan accordingly if a quad day is on the itinerary.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
Most of our local quad bike rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-maintained quad, helmet, guide and friendly service. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a quad bike, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
