Picture swapping the Tube for open throttle: a quad-bike rental in London gets you out past the North Circular and into the kind of terrain the city itself can't offer. Head northeast and the ancient woodland of Epping Forest opens up into bridleways and off-road tracks, or follow the River Lea north through Lee Valley Regional Park, where the green corridor gives way to open country. Neither feels like London at all — that's the point.

Central London itself is dense, congested and effectively closed to recreational quad riding, so a quad hire here isn't about weaving through Zone 1 traffic. It's a day-trip vehicle: you drive or get shuttled out to an estate or heathland on the city's edge — Essex, Surrey or Kent — and ride terrain a car or bicycle simply can't reach. That's exactly what a quad is built for, and it's why the appeal sits just outside the M25 rather than inside it.

Top 10 things to see in London by quad bike

  1. Epping Forest — ancient woodland on London's northeast edge, laced with off-road tracks and bridleways.
  2. Lee Valley Regional Park — a green corridor north along the River Lea, mixing off-road trails with open country.
  3. Box Hill, Surrey — a classic Surrey Hills viewpoint with steep lanes and off-road climbs, a favourite day trip from the city.
  4. Windsor Great Park — royal parkland west of London, with long straight avenues like the Long Walk and off-road tracks.
  5. Thames Path towpath, Richmond to Kingston — a scenic riverside route, best on its unpaved rural stretches.
  6. Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty — rolling countryside and trail centres just south of the capital.
  7. Chobham Common, Surrey — one of the largest lowland heaths in southeast England, near Woking.
  8. Bluebell Wood routes, Kent/Surrey borders — seasonal woodland trails, best from April to May when the bluebells are out.
  9. Hainault Forest Country Park — green space on the Essex/Redbridge border with trails suited to quad riding.
  10. Damyns Hall / Rainham Marshes area, Essex — flat marshland and open ground east of London, home to several off-road centres.

What do you need to rent a quad bike in London?

Road-legal quads are treated as full motor vehicles in the UK — registered, taxed, insured and MOT'd — and you'll need a valid driving licence, usually a full car licence is enough. Off-road quads used on private land or at an activity centre don't legally require a licence at all, though operators will still expect a minimum age and often ask for a deposit on your card. An International Driving Permit isn't required for UK residents or most foreign visitors holding a recognised licence, but it's worth carrying if you're unsure. Helmets aren't legally mandatory for quad riding as they are for motorcycles, but every operator we work with requires one regardless.

How much does it cost to rent a quad bike in London?

Expect to pay around GBP 45–65 per session in low season, rising to GBP 150–250 for larger-engine or guided premium off-road experiences.

  • Prices climb from June to August, when school holidays and peak outdoor season push demand up.
  • November to February is cheapest, though shorter days and wetter ground limit availability at many sites.
  • Booking a few weeks ahead in summer helps you get the slot and vehicle you want.

When to book a rental quad bike in London?

High season runs June through August, plus Easter and half-term weeks, when the best estates and trail centres fill up fast. Low season stretches from November to February — quieter, cheaper, but with shorter daylight and muddier tracks. If you want the sweet spot, May, June and September bring long days and mild weather without the peak-summer crowds.

Local traffic rules in London

The UK drives on the left, so give way to traffic from your right on roundabouts. Helmets are compulsory by law for anyone riding a motorcycle or moped on public roads, and every operator will insist on one for off-road quad sessions too. Built-up speed limits default to 30 mph, with many London-area zones now down to 20 mph. The drink-drive limit is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in England — the safest approach is simply not to drink before you ride.
