Beijing's downtown core moves at metro speed — packed subway cars, gridlocked ring roads, and streets that were never built for anything wider than a bicycle. But head north to Yanqing, Miyun or Huairou, and the city opens up into reservoirs, grassland and dirt mountain roads where a quad bike finally makes sense. Picture bouncing along the shoreline of Guanting Lake with the wind in your face, or climbing a rutted track toward the Juyongguan Great Wall as it snakes over the ridgeline ahead of you — this is Beijing few tourists ever see.
Central Beijing simply isn't quad territory: too much traffic, too many restrictions, not enough room. The outer districts are a different story. Wide reservoir shorelines, open grassland, and unpaved mountain roads around the Great Wall foothills give you routes a car can't comfortably reach and a standard city rental never touches. If you want to rent a quad bike in Beijing, this is where the vehicle actually earns its keep.
Quad bikes and ATVs aren't registered for public roads in China, so you'll ride them on private or off-road sites — resorts, tourist tracks and dedicated riding areas — rather than out on the open highway. Because of that, most operators skip the licence requirement altogether and simply ask for your passport and a short safety briefing before you set off. You'll typically need to be at least 18, and a deposit is standard, usually taken in cash or as a card hold; the exact amount depends on the operator and the vehicle. No International Driving Permit is needed for this kind of riding.
Average rental price is around 120 CNY per day during low season, rising to roughly 200-300 CNY per day in high season. Larger-engine or newer quads with a guide and insurance bundled in run 350-500 CNY per day.
April-May and September-October are the sweet spot for riding weather across northern China — mild, dry, and clear, which is also why they draw the biggest crowds and the highest prices. If you're chasing quieter tracks and lower rates, aim for March-April or November instead. Winter brings snow and ice to Yanqing's mountain routes, so many outdoor quad trails scale back or close from December through February — worth checking directly with the operator if you're travelling in that window.
China drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory riding gear, and operators will brief you on the site's own safety rules before you head out, since quad routes generally sit on private or off-road land rather than public roads. Where any road sections are involved, expect urban speed limits of roughly 30-60 km/h. China's drink-driving threshold is effectively zero tolerance at 20 mg per 100 ml of blood alcohol, so plan to ride sober. Beijing's central districts also enforce motorcycle restrictions, another reason the best quad riding here happens out in Yanqing, Miyun and Huairou rather than downtown.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
