Picture swapping the crowded valley floor for a machine that shrugs off gravel switchbacks and forest tracks — that's what a quad bike gives you in Innsbruck. Ride out from the Golden Roof in the Old Town and within minutes you're climbing toward the Bergisel Ski Jump or pointing the handlebars south into the Stubai Valley, where glacier views open up along a route no city bus or rental car could take you. It's the kind of morning that turns a quick Tyrol stopover into the trip people ask you about for years.
Innsbruck's setting is exactly why the vehicle works so well here. The city sits pinched into a narrow alpine valley, ringed by steep forestry roads and gravel tracks that a standard car can't handle and a bicycle can't survive. A quad's ground clearance and traction turn those same routes — toward the Stubaital or up past Igls — into the highlight of the trip rather than an obstacle, and you can be back in town for dinner.
Road-legal quads in Austria are registered vehicles, so most rental companies will ask for a full category B car licence; lighter quad classes can sometimes be rented on an AM entitlement, and purely off-road machines on a closed circuit may need no licence at all — always confirm the class with the operator before booking. An International Driving Permit isn't legally required for EU licences, but if yours isn't in Latin script it's worth carrying one alongside the original. Expect a minimum age set by the rental company itself, usually above the legal floor, plus a deposit taken as a credit-card hold and photo ID in the renter's name.
Prices on our website start from around 15 EUR per day in the quiet months, climbing to roughly 35–45 EUR per day in high season, with premium or multi-passenger models running up to 60–70 EUR per day.
High season runs through July and August, with prices and demand at their peak and booking ahead a good idea. Low season stretches from November to March, when many mountain routes are snowbound and some operators scale back — but if you can, aim for May, June or early September: the high passes are open, prices sit well below the July–August rush, and the valleys are far less crowded.
Austria drives on the right, and helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a quad. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 100 km/h on rural roads outside them, though many of the forest and mountain tracks you'll actually ride carry their own lower signed limits. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, tightening to a near-zero 0.01% for probationary licence holders, so it's simplest to treat riding and drinking as mutually exclusive for the day.
