Graz sits in a bowl of green hills, and the moment you leave the old town behind, the roads start climbing. Point a quad up toward the Schöckl and you'll be winding through forest switchbacks before the city noise has even faded, arriving at a summit with a panorama over the entire Grazer Becken. Head the other way and the vineyard curves of the Südsteirische Weinstraße or the terraced hills of Sausal are waiting, an easy day's loop from the city centre.
Graz is built on slopes that a bicycle struggles with and a car can't really enjoy — steep, narrow, sometimes unpaved roads lead up to viewpoints like Schöckl and Plabutsch, and a quad handles the grades and loose surfaces without breaking a sweat. It also puts the wider East and South Styrian countryside within reach: castles, lakes and wine roads that are too far on foot and more exposed on two wheels when the region's mountain weather turns. If you want to rent a quad bike in Graz, this is exactly the kind of terrain it was built for.
Road-legal quads in Austria are registered vehicles, so you'll normally need a full car licence (category B); very light quad classes can sometimes be rented on an AM entitlement, so it's worth checking the exact machine with us before booking. Rental companies usually set their own minimum age, often higher than the legal minimum, and will ask for photo ID and a credit card in the renter's name. A deposit is standard practice, taken as a card hold, and scales with the size of the quad. EU licences are accepted as they are; if yours isn't in Latin script, carry an International Driving Permit alongside the original just in case.
Average rental prices start around EUR 15–30 per day in low season and climb to roughly EUR 45–90 per day in high season. Larger 4x4 sport and utility quads run higher, typically EUR 80–120 per day.
High season runs through July and August, when demand and prices both peak, so booking a few weeks ahead is worthwhile. Low season stretches from November to March, when many mountain-area operators scale back and prices drop to their cheapest point of the year. For the best mix of good weather, open roads and lighter crowds, May, June and early September are the sweet spot, with prices sitting comfortably between the two extremes.
Austria drives on the right, and helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a quad. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 100 km/h on rural roads and 130 km/h on motorways, though quads on public roads will mostly stay on the lower end of that scale given the terrain around Graz. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05%, dropping to a near-zero 0.01% for probationary licence holders, so it's best to treat riding and drinking as mutually exclusive. Most of our quad bike rentals in Graz come with a well-maintained, road-legal vehicle, a helmet and friendly service included.
