Palo Alto may be known for tech giants, but it’s also a very manageable city for exploring on a scooter. Renting a scooter allows visitors to glide quickly between neighborhoods, stop easily at parks or cafés, and enjoy the California sunshine without the stress of heavy traffic.
Small scooters with engines up to 50cc can often be rented with a standard car license. For larger scooters above 125cc, a motorcycle endorsement is required. International visitors may need to present both their home license and an International Driving Permit. A deposit is typically required, and the minimum rental age is usually 18.
Scooters come ready to ride, often with helmets included. Before leaving, inspect the scooter for scratches or damage and make sure the lights and brakes are functional. Some companies allow drop-off at alternative locations or provide hotel delivery for added convenience.
Riders must follow California traffic laws. Helmets are mandatory, headlights must be on when riding at night, and weaving between cars is not permitted. Sidewalk riding is strictly prohibited.
