Scooter rental is the dominant personal transport mode in southern Bali, and in Kuta — with its dense tourism infrastructure — it provides unmatched flexibility for moving between beaches, shopping zones, and transport links.
Required documents vary between rental companies, but common rules are as follows:
1) you can rent a small 50cc scooter with an ordinary B (car) licence or AM license;
2) you will need a car license or A1 (scooter) or A2 (small moto) driving licence for scooters with an engine capacity of 125cc;
3) a full moto licence (A class) is required for all scooters with an engine capacity more than 125cc.
Some rental companies ask for an International Drivers Permit (IDP) and security deposit which will be returned at the end; always check the terms of specific providers on the booking page before making a reservation. Most accept foreign car licences for 110–125cc models like the Honda Vario. IDP is not legally required but often requested. The deposit is standard and refunded upon safe return.
