Jakarta’s traffic congestion, with average speeds below 20 km/h in central zones, makes scooter rental a pragmatic choice for navigating the city’s grid and reaching key destinations without multi-modal transfers.
Required documents vary between rental companies, but common rules are as follows: 1) you can rent a small 50cc scooter with an ordinary B (car) licence or AM license; 2) you will need a car license or A1 (scooter) or A2 (small moto) driving licence for scooters with an engine capacity of 125cc; 3) a full moto licence (A class) is required for all scooters with an engine capacity more than 125cc. Some rental companies ask for an International Drivers Permit (IDP) and security deposit which will be returned at the end; always check the terms of specific providers on the booking page before making a reservation.
On our website you can rent the following types of scooters: classic scooter, Vespa, moped, motoroller, motoscooter, with a sidecar, with automatic or manual gears, three-wheeled scooters, large, maxi-scooter, touring, scooters with a windscreen and a roof, underbones, electric scooters. Automatic transmission dominates the fleet due to stop-and-go traffic conditions. The Honda Beat, Vario, and Yamaha Mio are most prevalent — chosen for fuel efficiency, hill-climbing torque, and parts availability. Vespa models are available but less common due to higher maintenance needs in humid conditions. Three-wheeled scooters are offered for riders seeking enhanced stability, particularly on flyover ramps like Semanggi or Casablanca. Electric scooters exist in limited numbers but face range limitations in heat and frequent stop-start use.
Models of scooters available include brands such as Adly, Aeon, Aprilia, Piaggio, Bajaj, Benelli, Beta, BMW, Derbi, Gilera, Honda, Kawasaki, Kymco, LML, Malaguti, Peugeot, PGO, Suzuki, SYM, TVS, Vespa, Yamaha. Honda and Yamaha represent over 80% of active fleets due to reliability and service network coverage. All units undergo pre-rental checks: engine oil level, brake pad thickness, tyre tread depth, headlight/brake light function, and chain tension (for underbones). Helmets are provided and mandatory by law — traffic police conduct regular checks near Monas, Gambir, and airport approaches.
When you make a reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to hotel, delivery to the railway station, or delivery to the airport. Top cases are highly recommended for carrying documents, laptops, or shopping. GPS navigation helps avoid congestion hotspots like Harmoni or Tomang. Full insurance covers damage to the scooter and third-party liability. One-way rental is available between major zones (e.g., airport to SCBD). Delivery is offered to hotels, stations, and the airport.
Ten locations efficiently reached by scooter include:
Helmet use is legally required for rider and pillion — enforcement is strict. Two-wheelers are prohibited from certain tolled expressway segments (e.g., inner JORR lanes). Avoid low-lying areas like Cawang or Kampung Melayu during heavy rain due to flash flooding. Always use the steering lock and U-lock when parked. Most companies provide a route map and emergency contact number.
With Jakarta’s transport challenges showing no sign of easing, scooter rental has evolved from convenience to necessity for many residents and visitors. Operators have adapted with well-maintained fleets, multilingual staff, and digital booking systems — and as demand grows, so does the number of verified companies on our platform. To ensure a smooth experience, compare models by engine size and storage capacity, confirm licence compatibility, and book in advance during peak seasons. The search form at the top of the page gives you instant access to real-time availability — no calls, no waiting, just reliable transport ready when you are.
