Campo Grande doesn't announce itself the way Rio or Salvador do — it's flat, spread out, and built on a grid of wide avenues that beg to be ridden rather than walked. Pick up a scooter and the city opens up fast: one afternoon you're weaving toward the lakes of Parque das Nações Indígenas, the next you're parked outside the Bioparque Pantanal watching one of the world's largest freshwater aquariums, and by evening you're circling back downtown for the smoky grills of the Feira Central. A scooter turns a capital that looks unremarkable on a map into something worth exploring properly.
This is a city built for two wheels. Campo Grande is low-density and flat, with wide avenues and traffic that's rarely aggressive, so the distance between downtown museums and outlying parks is too far to walk but effortless to cover on a scooter. There's no metro to plan around and no need to time your day to a bus schedule — if you want to **rent a scooter in Campo Grande**, you can stop wherever something catches your eye.
You'll need a valid driving licence: small mopeds up to 50cc fall under Brazil's ACC authorisation, while larger scooters require category A of the Brazilian CNH or an equivalent foreign licence, so bring your International Driving Permit alongside it. The legal minimum driving age is 18, though some rental companies set their own higher minimum for bigger models. Expect a deposit as well, usually held on your credit card, with the exact amount depending on the company and the vehicle.
Prices swing with the season. Expect around 30 BRL per day in low season, rising to roughly 60–90 BRL per day in high season, with premium models running about 100–130 BRL per day.
If you're chasing the best price, aim for December through February, when demand eases outside of Carnival. If you'd rather ride in dry, sunny weather and don't mind paying more, June to September is the busiest and priciest stretch, driven by travellers heading on to the Pantanal, so it's worth booking a little ahead during those months.
Brazil drives on the right, and helmets are mandatory for both rider and passenger on scooters. Motorcycles and scooters must ride with headlights on at all times, even in daylight. Urban speed limits default to 60 km/h unless signs say otherwise, and Brazil has a zero-tolerance policy on drink-driving — any detectable alcohol counts as an offence. Speed and red-light cameras are common around the city, so it pays to keep an eye on the limits as you ride.
