Valletta looks like a city built for slow walks and long lunches — and it is, right up until you want to see the rest of Malta. Beyond the bastion walls, the island opens up into honey-coloured countryside, cliffside roads and villages that no bus timetable does justice to. This is where a quad bike earns its keep: rent one and within twenty minutes you can be climbing toward Mdina, the old walled capital, or catching the wind at Dingli Cliffs, the highest point on the island. If you're weighing whether to rent a quad bike in Valletta, this is really the appeal — not the capital itself, but everything it puts within easy reach.
The city centre is compact, largely pedestrianised and best explored on foot, so a quad wouldn't add much there. Its real value shows once you leave the peninsula: Malta is small, but public transport thins out fast outside the main towns, and distances of 10–25 km that would eat a whole afternoon on foot or by bus become a quick, enjoyable drive by road. Most rural roads are paved and easy to handle, so stringing together several sights — countryside, coastline, a beach, a fishing village — in one loop is entirely realistic for a half or full day, which is exactly what makes quad bike hire in Valletta such a practical choice for visitors.
For a road-registered quad, a standard car licence (category B) is normally accepted. Rental operators typically ask for a minimum age of 18, sometimes 21 for larger quads, along with a minimum time your licence has been held. An International Driving Permit isn't required. Expect a deposit, usually blocked on a credit card in your name, with the amount varying by operator and model.
A basic self-drive quad, such as a Kymco MXU 250, runs EUR 15–25 per day in low season and EUR 30–45 in high season. Guided half-day tours are around EUR 70–80 per person, and full-day guided tours with lunch or a Gozo add-on can reach EUR 105–150.
High season runs June to September, peaking in July and August, when prices and demand are both at their highest — book ahead if you want a specific model or a Gozo tour slot. Low season, November to March, is cheaper and quieter, with riding still comfortable since Malta rarely sees frost. April, May and late September into October hit a good middle ground: pleasant temperatures, thinner crowds, and prices closer to low season than high.
Malta drives on the left, and at the island's many roundabouts you give way to traffic coming from your right. Helmets aren't legally required in a quad's cab-style seating the way they are on scooters, but always follow what your operator provides and requires. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 80 km/h outside them — there are no motorways on the island. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.05 g/100ml, and mobile phones may only be used hands-free while driving. Quads must stay on public roads unless the operator specifically authorises off-road use, and note that no vehicles at all are allowed on Comino.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.
On our website you can hire quad bikes from the following manufacturers: Yamaha, Honda, Polaris, Can-Am, CFMoto, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Linhai, TGB.
Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
Most of our local quad bike rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-maintained quad, helmet, guide and friendly service. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a quad bike, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
